Professional sportsman thinks its cool to rifle the ball into the back of the net when he has the last kick of the game. Gyan should have placed it low, at least then if the keeper saved it, then he could get at the rebound. But what do you expect from someone who has as many posers as Zoolander.

The point is a 100% certain goal is replaced with a diminished chance of a goal. Which is unfair.

And since they brought in spot kicks, the aim is to keep it low and hard, into the corner of the net. If you have watched any World Cup, EURO or any other major competition that could result in penalty kicks you will notice the same trend for penalty kicks. Keep it low, hard and in the corner. Yes going into the higher half of the goal can be more successful, but its way more risky, too risky to rely on it in the most pressure filled position possible!!

A well placed penalty kick, low and in the corner, will only get saved if the keeper guesses the right way. But do you want to be the idiot who blasts high and left when the keeper went right???

Are you being serious? You are saying that it is generally accepted that a penalty is ALWAYS kicked low for the corner?

I think what I have seen in all the penalty shoot outs I have seen over the many years smears BS all over this! There are stacks of different ways in which players choose to take their penalties. Even last night we had the last Uruguayan chipping the ball straight. So don't for one second try and make out that you are the world's foremost authority on the matter and that there is only one way to take a penalty.

The reality is that the most successful penalty would be one hit directly into one of the top corners of the net. No keeper in the world would be able to save that. As stated by you the keeper has a 50% chance of saving a low kick for the corners if he guesses his direction right.

You make it sound like it never happens. Yes we all know its against the rules. He broke the rules and was punished in accordance of the rules. I personally think it was a reflex action to protect the face rather than intentional handball but thats of course up for debate. If there was a type of penalty goal rule like the penalty try rule in rugby then things wouldve worked out different. Couldve wouldve shouldve, its irrelevant. A very tense game was referreed in accordance with the rules with no glaring ommisions as far as I can tell. Sometimes the rules work for you, sometimes they work against you. Alls fair in love, war and sport.

Don't be bitter for it is not his fault he tried his best to keep his team in the game, you should be blaming Gyan for not burying that penalty... and yet again what has these players learnt? In a spot kick you pick your target and you hit your target NO matter what! Gyan picked his target but ballooned the ball!

BTW what's up with this picture? 24 year old Goal Keeper saves 2 penalties at the QF and kept a clean sheet for 4 consective matches in an World Cup... only gifted a soft goal in the QF as he was half asleep when Muntari shot from range

....all of which totally fails to acknowledge the fact that none of those things mentioned would ever have needed to take place if the Uruguayans hadn't decided to play netball for the last minute.
