Lumia 920 Thread

Still waiting to see the dummy, i want to find out if its actually manageable.

Does MTN also give a free charge pad with the phone?

Not sure that's even worthwhile.

Gimmicky.

I would just use the standard ac charger.

Also, what are the long term effects on battery discharge using the charging pad? I try avoid partially charging my cellphone preferring to wait for it to reach less than 10% before charging it to 100%.

Actually with modern batteries it's not bad at all to discharge at any random time. Also, it's bad to let your battery get that low.

Indeed, it takes decades to properly charge the phone using the mat. The only use i have found for it is to stick it on bedside table, and have the phone charging when I read etc whilst still having easy access.

Constant use since I got mine. And I've not had a single freeze or reboot, been installing and removing apps a lot and still runs smooth.

Thought I'd give you guys a little review as well seeing that I've had mine for just over a week now.

The wireless charging pad BTW is awesome, and mine charges quite quickly as well! Just plonk it on your office desk and it becomes real handy! Li-Ion batteries should NOT be discharged before a charge, they have no memory effect and regular charging is encouraged.

I've had one or 2 reboots so far, but nothing major, haven't happened in a couple of days now. The photo quality is amazing, even when you shake the phone intentionally you still get a clear shot. I'll upload some pics hopefully later today.

I've not really had any apps that I miss, I've been able to download WhatsApp from the start and I see it's still in the store. The Facebook and Twitter apps are both miles ahead of the Android versions!

The main battery culprits seem to be (as always) the screen and 3/4G. Seeing that I'm on Wi-Fi 95% of the time I've switched to using 2G for network (it's quick to change when not in Wi-Fi zone) and my battery and network is very stable.

The only real problem I had so far is that if you do not have the Store pinned to your start screen, you won't be notified of application updates, which sucks, but that's at least easy to get by.

This is by far the best phone I've had in a long time, and I reckon Windows Phone 8 will still go very far, they do have a couple of minor issues to sort out, but I'm sure it'll get there. All and all very well worth it and I'm loving the phone!

My other gripe is the windows scheduler it does not allow constant tasks in the background, only periodic or resourceintenstive but comes with so many constraints. So from a instant messaging point of view it makes them no longer real time.

What about Whatsapp and gmail/email? Working with push notifications?

I heard about this and tested with WhatsApp, Skype and Gmail and all of them seemed to work brilliantly and in real-time, so I'm not too sure if those reports are true. With gmail for instance I received the push notification arrived before it even showed up on my pc, which is not bad.

mine works, but whatsapp seems to have a delay. so there is a notification, when going to the app, it can take anything up to two minutes to update the conversation.

Mmmm, how are you notified of incoming messages if for example, the phone is locked and in standby mode in your pocket?

There is a sound notification, when you turn the screen on it shows you push message at the top of the screen. When that dissapears you still have the live tile indicating a new message. As syntax said though, there seems to be a bug in the app where sometime you need to go into the convo then back to see the message.

Fair enough.

This could be a deal breaker for me though as I am on wifi and Whatsapp 95% of the day!!

Users on Wi-Fi networks with no carrier data will often see delayed notifications, since the phone turns off your Wi-Fi when the screen is off in order to preserve the battery.
