Lumia 920 Thread

Is this phone (The 920) worth getting? I wanted the iPhone 5 but waiting times are like insane, and the S3 I do not want, cause I want a change from Andriod just to experience other operating systems.

Or i could wait like 1 month for the iphone or get the Lumia 920.

I need a stable phone for work.

Read the last two or three pages and you will see that it's hit-and-miss whether or not you will get a stable phone. I'm putting up with the instability of my particular device for now, in the hopes that MS/Nokia will get it sorted, but if I absolutely needed a stable phone for work purposes, I would wait it out for the iPhone 5 right now.

Got the 920, hope for the best :) Struggling just to get the sim thingy out :)

Still struggling to find a case or pouch for this phone.

Where do I look for that? The firmware version. I haven't updated anything yet. Just charging it still. I'm on vodacom

You can use it while it charges (including the first charge). Goto Settings -> about to get versions.
To open the sim tray just take the little metal thing and push it straight down into the hole until it pops out.

OS version: 8.0.9903.10
Firmware revision: 1232.2109.1242.1001
Hardware: 1.0.0.0

Thanks :)

Well I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy S1 in mid December. So far I'm loving the phone, its a refreshing change but I won't go as far as to say that it beats android hands down. I moved for a more unified experience with the design theme and have been loving it. App wise I'm not having too much of a problem with missing apps that I can't live without. The battery life is mediocre, still better than my s1, which has been on various custom roms for quite some time.

There are a couple of niggly things like the lack of a notification centre which irritate you from time to time. The toasts should at least stay until cleared if your not actively using your phone (ie locked and in your pocket). I've had no problems with the normal phone calls and smses and would go on to say general call quality is great and better than my last phone. However the speakerphone is not as loud as I would of liked it to be or at least mine is not going to its maximum volume. Oh and also the transition was really easy just added my google account and all my contacts were there.

One of the things I am concerned about is the amount of data the phone uses, as there is no data log readily available as in any Ice Cream Sandwiche and above. As for the random reboots I have had a couple, but having been running Jelly Bean on a device that really should not have been running it I am quite used to it. So far not a lot, maybe 3 in total. Once while taking photos, once in the pocket and once while just texting people. No idea what causes it but not exactly a deal breaker. It would be nice though if they made the phone vibrate heavily for a bit on start up so you at least know it will need the pin code again.

All and all I am very happy with the phone and dont regret the change. It's nice to have something different, plus the camera and the screen are killer.

Anyone getting the error code 805XXXXXX something about market not available?

Is it my phone or network? It works now again very intermittently

I see in my access point settings it gives me the option between Vodacom 3G and Vodacom LTE. Should I use LTE or will there be a nasty surprise for me at the end of the month?

LTE and 3G costs the same per MB, you might use more on LTE though as it's much faster

If you require that your Lumia 920 AUTOMATICALLY SNIFF LTE when in an area with coverage then select the Vodacom LTE APN instead of the Vodacom SA aka internet APN (Access Point Name) - Settings/Access Point on your phone. Hope this answers your question.:)

Hey Guys, so i decided to take the plunge - i got myself a white nokia 920!! :)

Did any of you guys get a screen protector /cover for it?
(i've seen the videos of the smash test, but i'm sure the screen gets scratched over time)

recommended car charger (get many different amp chargers)?

Best Apps? (prefer free, but some like metro tube prob have to buy)

(photo apps, flashlight, utube, facebook, screenlock, weather, any other really cool ones)

Best way to port contacts from old phone? (Symbian)

How do you guys find the weight when trying to take many pictures - best way to hold it is two handed? (feels like, if you dont hold it quite tightly it might suddenly slip out if only one handed)

I didnt, but i am starting to think i should have. I have 2 scratches on the screen which arent bad, but not great either.
I am quite careful with the phone (only put in pocket that is empty, not with other keys etc)

I have yet to find one that doesnt work

I use two hands with the phone all the time, when doing anything at all.

I haven't taken a whole whack of photos yet, but I can see how that would be a problem. This phone has already slipped out of one hand so many times I'm beginning to suspect that it is externally coated with some form of grease.
