daniellgr are you the mayors' PRO?
Please enlighten us.
What contribution did the Mayor and the Leader of Gauteng province make to the Rescue and Recovery effort?
What did they do when they were on site, and how long did they spend there?

Only a person who is prepared to build instead of always breakdown .... as so many on this forum seem to be hell bent on....
It is NOT necessary for a senior person to get into the trenches and get his hands dirty to show his concern and commitment either.

Showing his willingness to be held accountable?
I'm sorry, but what exact planet are you on at the moment?

No it is you that live on a planet where the order of the day is to just criticise all the time ....

I have a right to my opinions as you do and I have a right to state them also ......

And we have a right, may a responsibility, to tell you when you're deluded

a [manager who is also a] leader leads from the front, gets his hands dirty, and deals out credit when needed...

a manager who is not a leader orders from the comfort and safety of his office, and steals all the credit due to others...

big difference between these two.

Agree in principal but with the added words above

If the mayor really wanted to get involved, he would have.
If he really wanted to be sure the Highway was safe, he would have cancelled all his meetings today, and been on site to keep a check while the clearing operation was taking place.
If he really wanted to show his appreciation to the rescue team, he could at the least have arranged for some token of appreciation - even a cold drink for each rescuer on site.
If the Mayor wants to take responsibility.......he would have!

It's also NOT necessary to hold up traffic for an hour just to get a photo opportunity, but hey that's just my destructive mind speaking.....

Drove into Sandton on Grayston at 3pm, and left at 5pm. The robots were out of order (as they often are) at the intersection of Grayston and Linden. No pointsmen to be seen, but Metro cops were in their usual spot pulling over motorists near the KFC on Grayston. If the mayor really cared he would have instructed the traffic department to make sure traffic flows smoothly this afternoon.

Really disgusting and opportunistic behaviour from the mayor using a tragedy for politicking...

Politicians politicking, what else do they do? I think he would have been equally criticised for doing nothing.

IIRC nobody could care less about him before this. The problem is that the reopening was held up while waiting for his arrival...

Nah, he could have had a press conference afterwards. Delaying reopening the aorta of gauteng for an hour... Unacceptable.

Murray & Roberts to fund funerals of bridge collapse victims

Mpho Raborife and Naledi Shange, News24

Johannesburg - Murray & Roberts, the company responsible for the construction of the pedestrian and cycle bridge which collapsed in Sandton, said it would contribute to the funerals of the two people who were killed in the incident.

Murray & Roberts CEO Henry Laas said on Thursday the company would also be assisting those in hospital with medical costs.

The support structure of the bridge, which runs along the M1 across Grayston Drive, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon shortly before the afternoon rush, injuring about 20 people when it crushed vehicles making their way past the bridge.

The road was closed following the incident and was officially re-opened by mayor Parks Tau on Thursday at about 14:30.

Murray & Roberts said it had appointed technical, engineering, legal and forensic specialists to probe the incident.

While the cause of the collapse was not immediately clear, Gauteng transport MEC Ismail Vadi said there were no reports of structural damage to the road.
