M3 vs RS4 vs std2 mathematics

Rs4 feels faster, sounds faster, and is an all round beast!!
I was fortunate enough to get invited to the launch of the RS4 at Kyalami a couple of years back. I got to drive the car around the track for a couple of laps and then Hennie Groenewald took me around for a couple of high speed laps. I must say the composure of the RS4 at high speed is sublime, in the hands of an average driver it is forgiving and flattering and in the hands of a professional driver it is a cutting edge, thrill a second, high performance racing car.

Is it quicker than the new M3, marginally if at all but in the wet it will absolutely destory the M3...

Agree the all wheel drive rocks in the Rs4!!

Can't do it on the high way mate...we've tried...just to many variables...broken down cars....blown out tyres in da lanes...crap like that...at least we can control it down certain streets in and around Jhb!!

as for hitting the cut off speed on the M3 u must of enjoyed it!!:D

Ye it is:D, but you dont need alot of road.
By the time I got onto the highway I was already at 160, 200 at Wynberg offramp, 250/260 before Woodmead....
Then I slowed down.

Also true...you should come do a drive with us 1 nite mate i think you'll love it, we've also got a Nissan Skyline Gt R34 700kw on the wheels.

speaking of math and cars...I spoke to a very hot blonde girl at the BMW stand at the MPH show, and she explained some of the aerodynamics of the M3 to me.

Apparently the front apron 'sucks' in air and passes it along the undercarriage and out at the rear apron - this creates a vacuum below the car and thus provides downward pressure for extra grip.
The carbon fibre roof (besides looking cool) actually lowers the weight of the top half of the car, thereby lowering its centre of gravity - which means even more stability

Nice

Air under the car isnt good....

So you saying convertible car have a lower centre of gravity?

The roof is made of carbon fibre to make the car lighter.. like with the M3csl.

JK8 you crack me up. Air flowing under car creates a low pressure cell ( in effect) which causes the car to get pulled down. Most racing cars use this technique. By making the roof lighter you do lower the center of gravity. So the pretty lady at the BMW stand was telling the truth.

Not to get into an Aerodynamics debate, however, I thought that effect is only achieved when the bottom is totally flat?

The flatter the better both M3 and RS4 do use flattened floor plans with rear diffusers, not track specs, but the both do utilise it.

Its still dangerous to implement on road cars. At 200km/h on an uneven road the car will flip!

It will flip?...how do you figure that?

The flattened floor and diffusers etc are just creating low pressures, not a vacuum or anything like that.

As for the carbon fibre roof, yes its to lower the weight, which then has the knock on effect of lower the centre of gravity, thereby giving better stability and better handling.

No its not dangerous to implement (low pressure cell which creates downward pressure) on production cars...what is dangerous though is driving 200km/h on an uneven road... that's just silly, I dont care who you are or what you drive

So something about golfs and M3s they the most customisable cars on SA roads. What happens when they drop the suspension on one of these things?

Lambo engine!!:D

Ha! We were wondering why the R8 has such a large engine space. The current 4.2 L FSI V8 is quite a bit smaller than the engine space allows for. This seems to indicate the option of a Lamborghini engine in the car! :D

I've been involved in bringing in all the 2007 R8's - so far 7 of the 2008 R8's are here! If you can get your hands on the S5, take it for a drive. Mmmmm-mmm.
R8 with the lambo 5.2l V10 due later this year, 5l V12 diesel (ex the Le Mans R10 diesel) announced last month.................
