Hmmmm, 17 grand for something that has no ethernet port, no optical drive and only one USB port? Yeah I don't think so.
Hell, Sony brought out the VAIO X505VP in 2004. It was lighter, 21mm at the thickest point and had more features than the Macbook Air.
Oh wait, it doesn't run OSX. My bad.![]()
No ethernet? I havent used ethernet on my laptop in the last 6 months come to think of it the optical on my laptop is also largely unused. I wouldnt mind if both were available externally (like they are with the MBA).Hmmmm, 17 grand for something that has no ethernet port, no optical drive and only one USB port? Yeah I don't think so.
How is that a relevant comparison?

How is it not?
Let me rephrase. Sony made a laptop, the VAIO-X505VP in 2004, that is 2mm thicker at it's thickest point (21mm) than the Macbook Air (19.4mm). This specific laptop from Sony weighed less than the Macbook Air. The Macbook Air has no optical drive, the VAIO-X505VP had one.
But then that's not the point I'm trying to make now is it.
Well, i`m sure it'll serve it's purpose.

The specs page for the X505VP say it also has/had an external optical drive. The Macbook Air has no optical drive, the VAIO-X505VP had one.
Well for starters, the sony laptop had a 10inch screen didn't it? So you may as well compare it to the mac book pro or any other unrelated laptop you could think of.
What point are you trying to make? Do you even know?
O....... K.......
I'll rephrase again.
Hmmmm, I wonder what this has to do with anything? But in any case you are correct the specific laptop I chose for a comparison does indeed have 10" screen.... indeed. The Macbook Air has a 13.3".
So effectively Sony created a smaller laptop with more features four years ago.
My point or lets rather say the question I am forced to ask is this:
What makes the Macbook Air so special?
I'll rephrase once more before I'm stuck in a meeting till three, just in case.
What makes the Macbook Air so special in the world of ultra thin ultra portable noetbooks/laptops?
...come to think of it the optical on my laptop is also largely unused...
