I have a 2007 model, with 2GB of memory (667MHz DDR2), and I want to upgrade it to 4GB.
On digicape they sell memory modules for almost R900 a piece, that seems crazy.

I know I can't buy any memory for my Mac, so, can someone maybe point me in the right direction? Looking for 2 x 2GB modules, DDR2 667MHz.

Any? If so why not? If it fits it will work.

If you're not in a hurry I'm planning on upgrading from 4gb to 8gb in the near future. :)

Can get you ram that will work a lot cheaper than that. Can only confirm price tomorrow. Made by other people for macs.

But yeah std laptop ram at those specs will work.

Sorry, that an should be any...
What memory do you have?
Have you tried prophecy? Use generic ram and save yourself some money. It all works.

I've got 2x 2gb of whatever my machine came with. :o Cant tell you more than that without breaking out the screwdrivers.

Well, let me know when you upgrade to 8gb and maybe we can do some business.

I just saw that a bunch of online shops have Apple memory tabs that are separate from all the other memory, so I made the conclusion that I can't use "normal" memory, but it should be Apple specific... but guess I am wrong.

It is just the way the Apple reseller works I guess.
I do not think you are wrong... Maybe before Apple switched to Intel chipsets you would have had to purchase special RAM.

I remember a couple of years ago I was looking at pricing of a Quad Mac Pro desktop... the system was around R40,000 and an 8GB upgrade cost R48,000. Just the RAM from Core cost like R8000 more than the whole Apple Pro machine! R88,000 in total.

I queried this, and Core was serious... it was the actual cost of the "Apple 8GB" stick!

Go figure!

Jeez, that is crazy.
Well, from a quick google search I can't really tell, but doesn't look like it has to be "special Apple" RAM, "normal" RAM will do.

Macs have been able to use generic ram for quite some time now, even the 5 year old ibook I recently got running for my kid takes the generic stuff. ;)

I've got a 17" MBP from the same era as yours and that's running generic kingston ram iirc.

Got my macbook aug last year.... it has 4GB ddr III 1067Mhz, I would like to upgrade to 1333 if possible, and 8GB.

What Kindof ram should I look for ?

Late 2009 early 2010 Macbook models use PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (1,066 MHz), so you will need to get 2 x 4GB sticks of these...

If you pop in 1333MHZ chips, they will just be clocked down to the 1066MHZ of the system anyway, so no advantage performance wise here.
