MacBook running slow

Well to start, startup time is 1min21seconds
Then spinning beach ball:
startup items are Skype, mail and team viewer, tried removing all startup items and it still starts at exactly same time of 1min21seconds.

After it has started I try load up say a .numbers file of a couple pages and the beach balls just spins, spins, spins and then it opens.

After it has opened try Safari, wait, wait and it opens, not instant like in Windows.

And starting up to a new user account instead of your default?

OK, TRIED everything suggested above, including create a new account BUT no effect, still feels sluggish.

Only thing I can think of is to try a clean install.

Good luck - that's definitely not standard. Pop up when/if you manage to sort it out...

If you're going to do a clean install why not put that 7200rpm drive and then migrate your data over from the old drive?

Ill test the ssd, when i run out of space again I might try fresh install on 5200rpm hdd, think maybe because i upgraded from mountain lion maybe.

It's not like Windows, generally an upgrade won't have any ill effects on the system.

Removed Office 2011 and noticed an improvement in speed but it still sluggish, so going for an install to ssd and will start from scratch.

OK, macbook is much much faster running on 120gb ssd.

Now I want to transfer my iTunes from old hdd to new one, do I just copy entire folder?

That depends on how whether or not you would prefer to keep your ratings, metadata, playcount etc in place... Google it. Some very good sites giving you step by step instructions.

I moved mine, and hardly any issues BUT I obviously did it the right way, which is a bit more complex than simply dragging the folder.

Boot time is now 6seconds to desktop, it's much much much more responsive, now I can actually work.

Going to get a USB 2.5 external drive to carry my movies (for kids to watch on iPad) around.

I refer you back to post #9. ;)
