Hey Guys,

I have a friend that has a MacBook Pro.

Specs:
C2D 2.5
3Gigs Ram
8600GT
250Gb 5400rpm 8mb cache HDD.

When he is in Mac OS-X and starts windows XP via Fusion, panning in AutoCAD seems fine, but if he boots into Bootcamp (Windows XP), it's uselessly slow. Windows itself looks sluggish. All the drivers are loaded, I set the page file to static @ 4.5GB, he's got enough free space, bla bla bla. He is running AVG free for an AV and the only other stuff that is loaded is Revir 09 and AutoCAD 09. Both windows' are running SP3.

Anyone have an idea as to what I can look at to solve this?

We are also looking at upgrading it to 4GB ram and getting an 7200rpm HDD. Will we loose the warranty if we do the HDD upgrade our self?

Consider upgrading to Win 7 - I run it on a C2D Macbook @ 2GHz and it runs fine (3GB RAM)- more than 3GB ram won't be used by 32bit Windows installation anyway so thats not going to make a difference - doubt if you will physically see an improvement upgrading the HDD to 7200 rpm.

It's faster in VMWare Fusion than in Bootcamp? Yeah that's odd, I say install Windows 7.

The bootcamp partition uses the native hardware. I would go with upping the ram as you might run into this problem again regardless of OS. VMware fusion uses 3d acceleration that is why the performance is better.
