macOS Sonoma

That’s silly it’s the final release or there’ll be a very small update.
I've already installed a fully fledged release and that's been problematic. Why would I compound that mistake by installing a [possible] RC?

Got myself a M1 MacBook Air a few weeks ago and have to say it has been one of the best tech purchases I have ever done, this thing is a little beast despite being around 3-4 years in the market now, feels like it came out yesterday.

Bought it mainly to do some video editing for my YT channel but I also wanted a desktop class OS as iPad OS continues to be gimped and treated like iOS's step sibling, lol. Had been looking into getting a Magic Keyboard but this was not going to fix the iPad OS issue so the MBA made a lot more sense.

I did have a 2015 i5 MBA back around 2017/2018, so I am glad to be back. Finding myself using the M1 MBA a whole lot more than I expected for a lot of other things like web browsing, WhatsApp etc... when home, typing on this keyboard is so great, my iPhone can catch a break.

Don't get me wrong, I still use my iPad Pro for some lighter stuff and also use use Sidecar which links my MBA to my iPad Pro and turns the iPad Pro into a 2nd screen which has come in very handy when doing video edits and some other stuff.

Mac OS Sonoma has been so far really great!

Good to be back on Mac OS! :)

My base M1 Air still going strong. I initially bought it as an experiment into macOS but it exceeded my expectations. I've been using it for work these last 3 months and can definitely feel it struggling here and there, so I'm looking to upgrade. Hope the M3 Airs come soon enough, otherwise I might have to try and find an M2 Pro somewhere.

Fortunately they're very different beasts. I couldn't believe the difference the new chipset made.

I'm also a huge fan of sidecar, especially when it comes to video editing.

My MBA M1 is also still going strong - but I must say, the performance on Sonoma is slightly worse than on previous versions. Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura all performed brilliantly, but it feels "slower" on Sonoma.

Also, it happened three times where my trackpad's "left click" would just stop working, and I had to restart the machine. All three occurrences happened on Sonoma 14.1 / 14.2, so far it hasn't happened on 14.3

Unlike iOS, you can roll back to a previous version of macOS if you want to. Just make sure your data is backed up first.

This is another thing that gets me with Mac OS, it is so much more open, it is almost like the Apple that make iOS, iPad OS and Watch OS is a completely different Apple to the one that makes Mac OS

Then again, I guess when Apple developed their mobile OSes they felt the need to lock them down due to the more messy situation in mobile at the time in terms of getting software, the landscape was far less established and lacked refinement versus desktop.

It used to be more open. Now you have to disable certain settings to allow third party apps.

Also wasn't it the case that a few years ago you could run iOS apps on M1 Macs? They did away with that, didn't they?

Been using Macs since Tiger.
