I could patch it higher with OCLP. We have another 15 inch MBP machine which is from 2015 with 16GB of RAM and AMD GPU and that machine is also now obsolete but it's still fast. That would still fly on the latest MacOS, also with OCLP.



Apple did not really ditch bootcamp, because no current Windows version runs on Apple Silicon.

Well there were Windows XP and 7. And Windows 11 will be supported until 2031 and CPUs from 2019 onward will support it officially.

Mac OS dropped out much earlier.

However as pointed out earlier, why the whataboutism, which is a logical fallacy and your attempt to move the focus away from what I wrote earlier, which is not incorrect.

As said previously MS doesn't make the hardware. Apple makes both. MS is supposed to support 1000s of different configurations, but Apple with a more expensive product can't do it for a couple dozen or so?

If a machine is perfectly fine, why no official security patch support? Yearly MacOs versions which add new emojis and some silly calendar or other applet features make perfectly good hardware obsolete.

my old i7 dell from 2019 couldn’t upgrade to windows 11 in 2021. they’re stopping support for windows 10 in october.

It's a rare exception here, as you can see with your own link, .04 of a year over 10 years. Vast majority are under 10 with as low as 6.
The problem is that Apple makes premium hardware and many of these devices hold out far longer. Editing 1080P video 10 years ago allows you to still use the machine now for office like situations, except Apple won't assist with that. OCLP however does allow this and with that, the performance often is very good, but security patches are there.

A 2012 retina Macbook with 16GB of RAM is more than fast enough for any Office like activity, even 8GB machines are still good. Except, you can't have security. It goes in the landfill to pollute.
