macOS Tahoe (macOS 26)

tiftfy

It's still the same Intel with the same +-8 year support. Get that though your skull. Nevermind it's not just BS features. I use window manager and the passwords app etc. every day since it came out with MacOS 14 and 15.

No **** Sherlock.

Move to Windows then and hack it to run on old hardware. Nevermind Apple dropping security support doesn't mean the laptop self combusts and disappears.

Talking out of your arse as usual.

I can see that you're frustrated af. You're wrong and that's it.

The latest Mac OS 15.5 runs very well on 2015 and even earlier MBPs.

I'm right in saying some emojis do push good computers closer towards obsolescence

Apple could have supported those 2012-2016 devices (with at least 8GB of RAM) with 15.5.

Arguing that Microsoft sucks sometimes is a poor excuse and I should never have allowed that whataboutism.

That’s great but Intel themselves don’t support the chips anymore. How do you want Apple to keep supporting them and provide security updates?

But Apple does support them, when you use OCLP. OCLP just patches in some drivers and forces the OS to install on 'unsupported' h/w. That's the thing, the computers are supported through a third party tool used to install Apple's newest operating systems.

Let's face it, Apple could also make Intel release support for these CPUs, if it wanted to.

Lol OCLP forgoes a lot of security to make it work. There’s a reason many people that use OCLP don’t even use Internet banking with it. It’s a hobbyist project.

How many?

Maybe during installation. But OCLP can't force a completely incompatible OS to run on the machine. These newer systems do retain some elements which allow them to still run on this hardware.

Later you have the same OS running.

People may be concerned that the writers of OCLP maybe put in some spyware. But it's the same OS essentially running. Watch that guy's video.

The point is that Apple could do something similar. But won't. Because 1. It costs a bit. Not much if you go by this being a hobby project. 2. It's a great incentive to get people to upgrade. If I was Apple I also would do what's best for my bottom line.

I think you don't understand.

The fact is that even if OCLP uses some older drivers which are no longer supported themselves, i.e. not patched, does not mean that Apple with access to the source code and specifications, couldn't update these things. 90% of the work is done already.

OCLP proves that Apple could do it. But it won't.

It's similar to how Ubisoft won't allow certain older games to have their DRM stripped, when the activation servers are offline and hobbyists have figured this out. Ubi could use their source code even but they simply don't care.

You are not wrong, but it costs too much money to maintain legacy products.

And like I said before, when you said I am factually incorrect, I'll maintain that they have some of the best software support in the industry. It's one of their selling points. Most of the internet would agree with me.

And don't forget that their target demographic is not people that keep hardware around for 10 to 15 years.

The thing is that there isn't a fixed definition of legacy. Often Apple cuts devices off arbitrarily. They could support them longer. Yes it costs money because any support costs money. Nobody said it was free.

The fact is that Apple could support many of these devices for longer and chooses not too. Apple controls the hardware and software and Macs come at a premium and are well put together and often very powerful machines. They are able to do their job way after Apple cuts the security support.

And don't forget that their target demographic is not people that keep hardware around for 10 to 15 years.

Apple claim to be green and aim to be carbon neutral. Also people do get attached to their devices. And Apple makes good quality devices which are able to sustain at least 10 years of mechanical use. The software support in terms of security patches could continue for longer unless there is some major architecture change such as PowerPC to Intel and Intel to Apple Silicon.

Also there are people here who enjoy using older devices. Those devices work for them. Why give these devices up?

All you're saying is arbitrary just-so fluff. Why did you even post this stuff?

All you said was:

1. "Legacy" support costs. Duh. Support of non legacy also costs. But the OCLP guys show that it doesn't cost much.
2. Best software support - again not true. In many cases Windows had support for longer. And so-what? That's whataboutism. It's a fallacy to claim - oh but Windows doesn't have as much support across every combination. And even that claim isn't always true.

At the end you have to say - Apple doesn't suck because some other company maybe sucks more? That's irrational. If you hold Apple to a low standard, you can still say -- Apple wins? OK.

And again, these OS updates ARE in fact a vehicle to drive obsolescence. Pretty icons and visual skins - now Vista Aero FFS to drop more good quality, often high spec'ed Macs.

Lol he keeps going on about how they control the hardware and software but it's Intel chips. He doesn't know his arse from his elbow.

I’m actually very surprised Intel is still supported this time around.

But I’m glad for it, now it’s full steam ahead without tech debt living in the OS.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the size suddenly comes down too, although I would expect Apple to be a bit better about that to start with and not installing Intel kak on your machine if you don’t need it.

Maybe soon Rosetta can bugger off too.

Intel works for Apple when it comes to these chips. So yes they control the hardware and software.
Control doesn't mean they make everything themselves. You seem to struggle with English comprehension.

You're like a troll, aren't you?

Because I'm tired of laughing, I'll let you have this one. Apple sucks. Everyone else sucks even more.

And I absolutely love this, it gives me all the reason to blow a tonne of money on a new machine every few years.

Also people do get attached to their devices.

There are highly educated people in medicine to see for such conditions. If you're short on cash you could probably even get someone to make a reality program about it.

You're just trolling. Smiggles and Smart@ss. LOL. Sock-puppetry? :)

You do realise Apple hasn't bought an Intel CPU in about 5 years?

That makes no sense at all.
Are you saying B2B support ends the moment they stop releasing new devices?

That's assuming Intel's support is even needed.
