Hi .I want to buy the most popular led loadshedding light which is magneto lantern one, but that has smoke and fire issue, when the wire joining at plug gets worn out..so alternative is bulb...
1. Those who have used variation of magneto led lead-acid light : such as using with three prongs plug, lithium ion one, different brand ones like switched and blue carbon; does any of these more or less guarantee the fact that same smoke and fire issue won't be there..?..has anyone still faced that issue with any of these variations..?.and which is your preferred variation to the original led acid magneto light .?...or one should simply use a bulb..
2. Can I leave my magneto led lantern plugged in all the time (as I don't want to hastle with plugging it in and out everytime and also from reviews, they say that red charging light never goes off so no way to know whether it is charged )...again, using led bulb is better here as those are generally plugged in all the time ?..

(My ques is purely from safety point of view as opposed to other parameters like battery run time, brightness etc.)..

the magneto lith units have no known issues presently .can be left plugged in but put it on a big tile so if it catches alight and melts it doesnt ruin the carpet.

Jirre you are a bundle of nerves.......

Magneto are safe. They have a proper SMPS for isolation. I have two of them and have pulled both apart and checked.

So far 8 million sold in South Africa alone.....

It's not the unit itself batteries, circuit etc.. it's the two prong plug that's problematic on the LA units.. the wire sheathing as it exits the plug part wears away and exposes the conductors..

The newer lithium units have improved on this and have additional bracing/support to resist this wear..
