This is the best video explaining how traffic congestion is caused (and its future solution) that I've ever seen: https://youtu.be/iHzzSao6ypE

Bottom line: don't tail-gate, don't change lanes faster than necessary, and try brake slow and smooth. If we all just do that, we'll all sit in traffic less. Win-win.

In this country we have people with sh*t for brains driving on the roads.

People drive through yellow/red lights.

Lately if they're stopped at a red light they pull off before it turns green. Nearly got t-boned today.

Yeah it's insane, wtf is wrong with people? This is why I *always* start braking if the light starts turning orange ahead (like you're meant to) rather than gunning it to get through, just in case there's somebody I can't see getting ready to turn right across my lane (who can't see me). That caution has definitely saved me a few accidents already, where I've seen a car just appear although they must have been driving blind.

I do this too and do not drive off when the light turns green for me. Instead I'll have a quick look checking if someone's going to cross in front of me by going through on the red.

None of that is the problem. The problem is that the people who need to hear it the most don't care.

Good for you maumau, chances are that we're both less likely to die or be maimed in a tragic road accident than many of the other road warriors ... unless one of those ijits just crashes into us because they're just really bad drivers. In which case, I'll see you in Heaven for a great session of complaining about it :)

*facepalm* Dude, I know you want to disagree with absolutely any statement online (even when it's true) but please fight the impulse ok? EVERYBODY needs to hear that. It IS the problem and it affects everybody. "The people who need to hear it most" includes you.

Alternative bottom line: when you tailgate, don't be chicken and over brake, and don't brake when someone changes lanes in front of you. Back your reaction times, and Darwin will take care of the rest of them.

Rofl. Well I guess if people follow your advice at least we'll have fewer risky drivers on our roads, purely because they'll all claim themselves a Darwin award sooner or later.

Sounds about right TrueETO. I've also noticed that "stopping in a circle phenomenon" just last week. Do you WANT to be rear-ended?

Dude, don't tell people to stop voicing their opinions in a forum, that's the stupidist thing ever.
What exactly does EVERYBODY need to hear? Your opinion? Or something about how traffic congestion works.
What makes you even think I was disagreeing with your post?
How does your OP even take into consideration the real problem with traffic congestion - drivers who actually just don't care about science or courtesy.
Touchy touchy boi.

I mean this forum has a dedicated page about bad drives and parking . South Africa will never ever be as smooth and effecient as some other countries , most people don't have a clue how a roundabout , traffic light or highway works

Roundabout : I think it's my turn let's just go , I don't need to indicate they know I want to turn or let's stop in the roundabout and just give the other motorist a chance

Traffic light : It's simply suggested that I stop I don't really have to , It's a drag strip so let's all pull away like it's the end of the world

Highway : Hazards on I can go any direction , I don't indicate but let's just changes lanes , I can drive 80kph in the fast lane no problem or last but not least lets tailgate the guy so he can break the law and go above 120

So let's play a game each time you dodge a pothole take a shot for each dodged pothole when you get home

If I get a chance, I'll start a discussion about roundabouts. I think we'll all be surprised about the differing opinions in here.

I will challenge pointless contrarian options, because they make discussion on the internet so unpleasant. You could easily discuss within a framework without first giving into your knee-jerk reaction to dismiss everything and then replace it with your personal framework. That's arrogance.

So the next question for you is why do you think I or anyone else should care if you have an issue with their contrary point of view on the net? THAT is arrogance.
What exactly are you saying? Don't come here with your debating tendencies?
Arrogance is suggesting that anything that doesn't fit in with the framework of your point pointless.
Back in your box, juju.

Lol, I'm going to keep the focus of this thread on traffic congestion rather than derailing it further, thanks. Sorry if somebody pointing out that your attitude sucks stings a little, but it should heal in two to four days.

Pro-tip, if you swagger into any thread and your first post is "THAT isn't what's wrong, THIS is", maybe you need to invest a bit more effort into engaging with others' points of view rather than just turning every thread into a confirmation of your own biases.

Sho. The hurt appears deep.
Pro-tip. Before you conjure up images of people swaggering into your thread to enforce their opinion, invest a bit of effort into hearing what they're saying rather than having a knee jerk reaction to it.
Not every opinion that sounds contrary is actually contrary, it could actually be complementary.
Try change the plot of the movie playing out in your head - like, maybe imagine they did little more than calmly voiced an opinion. If you can't do that one thing, just ignore it. The internet will turn out to be a lot less unpleasant, guaranteed.
Your call.

Oh I don't mind Heavy, poking holes in other people's little comfort bubbles is all part of my mission online. I seem to have done a sterling job on you.

Oh I dunno, I love entertainment, I'm not fussy.
