Make the right broadband choice

Thing with Telkom is service and availability.

There are times that I feel we are in a 1st world country - and then I deal with Telkom and am instantly reminded where we actually are. The last I used the ADSL service was about 5 years back and had hoped things had progressed. Sadly not.

No ports, old infrastructure, outdated exchanged, 4 month backlog or stolen cables means that wireless solutions and 3G are our only hope

according to the telkom website its

16 GB @ 239 and not 20 GB as stated, unless im missing something.

16 GB - R239 = 14.9 / GB
30 GB - R440 = 14.6 / GB
40 GB - R630 = 15.75 / GB
50 GB - R810 = 16.2 / GB

It's a pity that in the wireless space there are so many promotions, whereas they should be norms.

While I agree that Telkom's prices suck, they are certainly usable as a company. My uncapped 4MB ADSL has had no issues on Telkom's side, and when my line suddenly went dead a very friendly and switched on Telkom guy pitched up the day after I phoned their customer helpline. He spent ages tracing cables and scanning things, rewired a huge segment of the Telkom line professionally and out of sight and it didn't cost me a cent. Credit where it's due...

OMG 370-00 Rand for 20GIG at snail pace and tied to the pole? MTN's snail is not only almost 100 bucks cheaper, but also can be used on the go. Do people actually bother with Telkom's offers?

Wait, what?
They sold 4GB to a family member for that price.

Then your family member got taken, unless it was before the special existed. They should do their homework next time.

Informative article, thank you.

May I suggest that a section be created on the page where tables such as those in the article are published to keep unsuspecting consumers informed?

they should include the total cost for telkom. that table is misleading...

No need. Neither MTN/Vodadom/8ta's data deals include voice calls. Perhaps a simple statement such as "None of the data plans include voice-related costs/rental"

But unlike telkom they don't force you to take the voice also.
