Makro Gaming Rig is it Worth it?

Hi All,

Looking at getting my son a mid range gaming rig, been I while since I was into the hardware side of things. Makro have a special on an Asus rig at the moment was R14999 now R9999, is it worthwhile or should I rather build myself ? :

ASUS Intel Core i3 Gaming Desktop PC

Specs aren't very detailed :

Operating System: Windows 10 Home
Processor: Intel Core i3 - 7100 (3.90 GHz)
Memory: 8GB RAM (DDR4)
Storage: 128 GB solid state drive & 1 TB hard disk drive
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB
Optical Drive: No

Build one yourself, or ask a nerd friend. R10k can get you much more bang for the buck than this thing

Thanks, will start scouring the likes of Evetech etc. to see what I can put together for the same price then...

Those components are mostly run of the mill but the total ends up being around : R12k and it doesn't include Win 10 Home.

**Pricing based of Wootware and not paying incredible amounts of attention...

Miskien kan jy so biki kante sny en vir veel goedkoper doen.. Evetech is redelik met hulle pryse.
 
You will be surprised what you can get away with on a budget gaming system in terms of CPU.

Yup. Came here to say the same.

The price isn't bad for this prebuilt, not an amazing special either but it is reasonable.

It is goddamn fugly though.
 
R10k is a good deal for this. I know everyone looks down on prebuilt, but this is a good price. R15k would have been a bad deal but R10k is good.
 
Strangest looking thing ever and would have gone for an i7, but good price anyway like others said.
 
For ~R10K you can build a new rig with i5-7500, gtx 1060 6GB, 8GB RAM, 450W PSU, 1TB HDD. For R900 more you get an i7-7700 which I would suggest.

EDIT:
Updated list with WD Blue 1TB which is back in stock.
Replaced the 3GB GTX 1060 with a 4GB RX580, it's only a R119 difference.

Add R1600 for windows plus extra for shipping and handle. That is really a R12k build, not a R10k build.

I'd be curious to know what motherboard the deal at Makro had, but I hope it is better than an H110m.
