A ‘vulnerable’ man cut off his own head with a chainsaw after being ordered to move out of his home to make way for developers, police believe.

David Phyall’s severed head was found beside the power tool inside his housing association flat shortly after receiving his eviction notice.

Detectives were today investigating the possibility that the 58-year-old killed himself rather than leave his home of eight years.

everybody is losing their heads these days!

If you can keep your head... while all about you are losing theirs...

"Keep on rolling rolling rolling...."

FFS what are these people thinking?

Or maybe they are not?

How do you cut your complete head off ? if i had to try and do it, the pain i'd feel when the chainsaw just nicks my neck,i'd drop the chainsaw, so would any human. seems a little fishy to me ...

Hectic...

I smell a conspiracy...the long term tenant didnt want to give in to the evil developers so they had to force him to move...hmmmmm

According to the article "They had offered him several places that were similar but he just didn’t want to move", doesn't sound like a "conspiracy" to me ... sounds more like he just had serious mental problems, the kind which probably started years ago.

The eviction may have pushed him into finally 'going a"head" with it', but it's very unlikely it had all that much to do with his decision. I'm sure he had other reasons. People in that state have usually already 'made up their minds' years prior.

What a gruesome way to go.

I can't believe they actually used the term "vulnerable" ... *gag* :/.

honestly, this also seems like a noteworthy contender for a darwin award - purely due to the fact that there are many other ways to quietly and quickly go without all the pain and gore. even if he wanted gore, he could have gone for another approach.

I'm feeling like making a prediction about someone using a phrase containing "tighten" and "belt" coming on. because that would be very fitting like all the gazillion "belt tightening" threads by a certain forumite. but that would be very off topic of me. :p

How could all of you make a joke about this, the man was evicted, and couldn't come to terms with it and this was the only solution he could come up with!!!!!!!

OK OK, don't bite our heads off ... pls keep a cool head, you know this kind of dark humor always rears its ugly head at times like this. You're right, the situation probably just came to a head and he couldn't deal with it. I guess he was in over his head. I mean, he was about to lose the roof over his head! As head of the household it must be hard to hold your head high in situations like that. Personally though I find it hard to get my head around how somebody can reach such a distressing point, I'm scratching my head over that. He should've headed off to find some professional help. You've got to head off these problems before they get out of hand. Clearly somebody is to blame for this, and I hope heads will roll when they figure out who.
