Mango grounding leaves passengers stranded

Mango passengers were left stranded on Wednesday after the budget airline was grounded due to outstanding payments to the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA).

The grounding followed a report from BusinessDay last week which said that a delay in funding from government would result in the airline stopping operations from 1 May and entering business rescue.

Earlier this week, travel agencies also issued warnings that flights might not go forward as scheduled.

Mango should be placed into business rescue with immediate effect

Let it go like SA Express. Same should be done with SAA. No more government airlines at all for this country thank you very much. We have plenty private airlines we can choose from to fly locally and if there is a market case for them to take up the international routes, they will do so.

When it comes to cargo, I think Ethiopian Airlines dominate and rightly so. They saw the opportunity and went for it. I dont see another SA airline being able to compete with them to be honest.

Since government is sourcing outside expertise, the MPE should source aviation experts from Ethiopian Airways. They are doing good business in spite of covid.

But the sheeple still book on Mango despite knowing it's dodgy status for months...smh.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Delta should be back middle 2021 and United starting EWR-JNB from June. All COVID dependent of course.

I was just going to throw that out there, when I read his original post.

Yip - right now I think we're on a restricted list - but there's still till Oct/Nov

Mango has confirmed that its services and all flights were temporarily suspended for Wednesday only, due to outstanding payments to ACSA.

“Senior management and our shareholder are locked in emergency discussions to find an amicable solution to this impasse,” the airline said.
I am always amazed by these statements. The "amicable" solution is to pay your bills.
