Manual transmissions

My auto will wheelspin on pulloff if I turn ESP off.

I'm too afraid to turn off ESP in my front-end heavy FWD car.

Reminds me of a TopGear episode I watched a while ago.

Some form of Vauxhall/Opel, which was in the same class as the Mazda MPS and some other car. The Vauxhall had so much understeer it kept on going straight even after Jeremy turned it all the way left or right :D

Respect for Jezza & that clip. Well loved lol

I'm also old school. I get bored in an automatic car especially if it also has cruise control. Just sitting there doing nothing....

Then I guess you are going to have a problem with self driving cars!

Can you even turn off esp in main stream modern cars? Your car seem to be a handful, especially when the roads are wet, so I don't think that would be a smart thing to do anyway.

You can in driver-focused performance vehicles. Not exotics but vehicles like the Civic Type-R, AMG vehicles, Audi S & RS vehicles.

Ok, I don't recall ever driving a car where you can switch the esp off. I will need to work a lot harder it seems.

You need to turn ESP off if there isn't any traction (think really muddy). It took me a minute to figure out that traction control was just killing any throttle input the first time that happened.

Isn't that just switching off the traction control, that doesn't switch off esp. Or am I mistaken? Most cars have that button?

Mine has Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ASR traction control. But no, I can't switch it off.

I can turn it off in my Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost which probably counts as a main stream car...

Yes you can, but with the cheap RoadStone wheels on front I am sure even with ESP on my 407 will scare most drivers. The amount of time you have your foot flat out in a turn and there is absolutely no power because ESP is trying to keep you from hitting the curb - happens a lot.

Our 1.8 Astra auto does not have ESP and lift-off oversteer in that thing so so predictable and well planted, I really enjoy it. Then again it does not have the same bottom level rubber on as my 407 does.
