A year or so I was on my way home when I noticed a police van on my tail, I was followed to my house and on trying to turn into the driveway the van overtook and and blocked me off. Female cop jumped out and told me to get out of the car, I got out and she very aggressively wanted to know what was in the crates in the back of my bakkie. I responded with, my shopping, whereupon she told me to open them, all the time the neighbours were gathering around gawking at the sideshow. On discovering that the crates indeed contained my shopping she muttered something and told me to go, to this day I have no idea what that was about but I'm sure if I lost it she would have chucked me in the van.

We all know that 50% of metro and police are on a power trip with a chip on their shoulders. 50% Of them do not have an IQ to count to 10, so arguing will get you nowhere. The story of playing chess with a pigeon comes to mind, it will just knock the pieces over and crap on the board, does not matter if you are winning.

Just stop, listen to what they want, get a fine, whatever, and be on your way.

Post of the year, I laughed so hard my colleagues are looking at me strangely

Unless you want Wayne to wade into the attitude drama of the two guys there is nothing much to be said about the incident, both could have handled it much better as Marius himself admits.

but still he can see the cameras, he can see the LR camera vehicle,
its clearly not an "ordinary" motorist hes stopped here.

why go and argue about something trivial like registration plates?
and disks and the rest of it.

just say you were driving like a fool, give him the fine, and move on with your life.

And it is the responsibility of the car in front to keep the correct following distance:cautious:

That was a classic. You can’t see my lights because you’re not maintaining a safe following distance (in front of me).

I think English happened to him, he probably meant his cop car was too close, these things happen when you are angry, that's why every man should be allowed to speak in his own language in the heat of the moment, not like it was going to make a difference because they were speaking past each other for the better part of that conversation.

2 idiots!
Yes !

What's the point of arguing.... the cop pulled him over and they both got enflamed.
Just ask what the issue is and move on. If they want to check something then let them do it and finish up.

I do think its the cop's job to de-escalate the situation. The guy didn't try and run he just didn't understand why he had been pulled over.

I do think you are allowed to ask why though - they can just say its a random check.

Also... FFS you are driving around with no plates. Realise that its a good reason to be pulled over and be polite.

Exactly, but it's not going to happen when said cop think he is a primary school teacher disciplining a child.

but why waste your time fighting though....

Its happened a few times where the officer wants to engage me and I ask them to just issue the fine. There are basically two options, either they need to see some sort of document like a licence or they are pulling you over because you did something. If they want to search the vehicle then we can go to the nearest police station.

If its the real police and they need to do something else then I suppose that is different.

I have never been issued a fine when I ask them to issue the fine.

Typical police reaction in Jhb from my experiences and one of the reasons I no longer react like Marius did, I simply let them have their say about whatever it is, give them my licence, etc. and if they accuse me of wrong doing I simply ask them to write the fine out so I can be on my way. Most times they are doing random checks and nothing comes of it but every time I have asked for a fine to be written out I have been sent on my way without a fine.

so if you ask for a fine, they dont give you one?
what madness is that?

or is it a JMPD officer just being a harda$$ because he can?

I'll risk presuming you are referring to my post...

Yes, even when I know I have clearly broken a traffic law, like the time I did a u-turn when there were traffic signs not allowing it and the officer eventually threw my licence back in my car and told me to **** off  There was one time when I was an idiot and had forgotten 'show' plates on my car on the way to Durban, I pleaded with the officer for a ticket and promptly paid for both tickets I received when I got to my parents house in Ballito.

Because it's my right. He's no little god. Fck him.

So there's a difference between pulling over, complying and then asking why you were pulled over VS waving your arms whilst still driving and then first thing you tell him is for what?

Driving without number plates is a serious offence. This guy was lucky he wasn't arrested.

I wonder if people really react like they are saying they would if it had been them being pulled over.

One thing I know and in my experience, after being pulled over let the offer talk and you'll be on your within a minute.
