Massive free data increase from Vodacom

Jannie, please explain why the data bundle price of talk packages (I guess most other contracts) are still very expensive compared to Vodacom's latest data offers?

Data is data, isn't it?

Slightly off topic(seeing how the thread is moving) but still relevant in light off..

I think the regulator needs to step in(wishful thinking) and be on the side of the consumer with these "promo" prices, because the way I see it is that Vodacom and the other MNO's can at a whim simply revert back to "normal pricing" if something is "hurting" and claim that it was a promotion after all, whilst the consumer is left at sea having been used(budgetary and otherwise) to these indefinite promotional prices.I feel it's sneaky on the MNO's to indefinitely keep these prices and play on a "loop hole" created. So, which is which, R279 or R149 on month-to-month or prepaid for the 1GB? Yes I know, on the R149 price i'd be reaping the benefits but as consumer I would like certainty and a open & transparent pricing regime from all operators(with special offers still welcomed of course:D) but not a 2-tier pricing advert as above.

These promo prices are confusing the hell out of us some consumers(though we try to keep abreast),case being, in June and July(i think) I was on the 20GB vodacom promo and I believe/think(see:confused already) that July was the last month it was on and so for August I went for 8ta 25GB+25GB(budgetary and needs basis for this month?) and now this month I still see that the 20GB is still listed(and on a needs basis would have sufficed this month at R499 vs R999 8ta<good for them they got the R500 diff instead of vodacom>) therefore I ask, will it be available next month or do I change my needs for next month to 2GB+1GB 8ta so I can put some money aside for...Dec(when the kids and me will be on holiday) for the 60GB+60GB/25GB+25GB 8ta or Giga 100/Giga200 Cell C or anticipate that vodacom 20GB will still be around(mind you, I think it would suffice while the others mentioned being nice-to-have's)...I think standard pricing should be the norm and either the MNO's commit to these "promo" prices as standard and stop pulling the wool over our eyes.

I would like certainty with the money I'm to spend monthly especially in these tough economic times.A promo should be limited to a strict time period and be re-introduced after a lapsed time period(3/6 months?) or committed as a standard price beyond the promotional period.

Ockie and Jannie, a question, if i may?

From what I understand it is a free migration to a larger package and will be done automatically, right? Well, that is how i understood it.

As I am with Nashuamobile, I emailed them regarding this and got the following reply:
Good day,

The below Mofaya promotional data tariffs were initially only available to New deals and Upgrades, but Vodacom have now amended the migration rules.

As from 20 August 2013, customers will be allowed to migrate from any Broadband Standard 24 month data contract (including the Mofaya contracts)
to any Mofaya Broadband Standard Data Contract promotions provided that the subscription migrated to is higher than the current subscription.

Regards,
Operations

All the existing business rules and conditions still apply.

From Nashuamobile's side it now seems I have to upgrade my contract to a higher priced one and have to sign up for another 24 months to go from the Mygig2 to Mygig3. It is not a bonus increase in your allowable data. Now I understand that Nashuamobile is not quite bound by what I understood Vodacom is offering, but this seems like they are getting x from Vodacom, but is only passing on x-y to their clients. Your take on this?

To my knowledge Nashua runs their own billing systems etc. We for example cant even access your line on our system. Our system will just tell us it is a Nashua or Autopage number and to advise the client accordingly. With us the migrations were automatic and the last batch was scheduled to complete on the 21st. I cannot speak for Nashua. Perhaps Jannie can ... but I dont think so.

Thanks Ockie. So Nashuamobile is not obliged to pass on this special to its customers I guess?

Please tell me if this statement of mine is true?
From what I understand it is a free migration to a larger package and will be done automatically, right? Also, you don't have to sign a new 24 month contract to benefit from that. Well, that is how I understood it.

No, these are two different things.

The provision of extra data is part of Vodacom's efforts to ensure everyone gets the best value.

The message you got from NM is about the ability for you to upgrade from one Mofaya special to another. something this forum asked for, for a while. ;)

Say you're on 2GB @ R99 but realise you need another 1Gb, or so. You would have to buy a single 1GB bundle at a silly price.

Now you can 'upgrade' your 2GB contract to a 3GB contract, etc. and still get the promo pricing.

Nice gesture indeed! Thanks Vodacom. I have 6 agreements with Vodacom. 4 of them (two voice) has been upgraded. the 500mb and 1GB options I am holding my breath for... :)

Why I have a problem with this is I have 2 contracts with Vodacom, but at the moment I can buy vodacom voice at half the price at HiFi corp than I am paying Vodacom for.

And yet my money is being used to sponsor discounts (freebies) for someone else. That's not really something I think I need to be happy about

How much of this was prompted by the Afrihost GSM offering....?

They must have sniffed it coming and reacted accordingly.
As a Vodacom customer since I moved to SA, am very cynical about anything they do.

A question to Janie or Ockie if I may?

I am on smart standard currently. What new smart package can I migrate to without paying a ridiculous amount.

Your choice going to be with the below two I would say. Smart M there will be a charge I think (customer care will give a quote) and the Smart L should be free ... but your subs will be higher compared to the Smart Standard.
