Using a Yagi antenna and was getting an RSSI of 69/70, all well and good however I got home tonight and my RSSI has gone down to 86! What the Hell? Spoke to Neotel and they said they will look into it, is anybody else having this problem?

I'm situated in Rodebosch, Cape Town, P/N is368. Using Neotel Prime.

Hope it's just temporary, if not... :(

Edit: Well I just checked on Neotel's website and according to them I'm no longer covered? I'm really getting sick and tired of all of this.

Wtf? I check on the map and I have moved from ok signal to super excellent, but my RSSI is down 20 units and speed is 10kB/s, when it was 210kB/s when it was ok signal....

My RSSI used to be 78, no external antenna. Then there was that storm last week, and it went up to 86. I thought it was just the bad weather, but now that its cleared up, it didn't improve. In fact, its gone up to 96, and 105 tonight.
I phoned them, they said that they were doing maintenance on the tower 2 days ago.

My coverage still says Excellent Indoor.
I'm connecting to PN 36, its in Wynberg, Cape Town.

I'm hoping its just temporary, or if not a new tower comes up in the next couple of days! *dreams*

My theory is this: They upgraded the Wynberg tower, so everyone is getting better speeds (Im getting over 100KB/s when it works, my upload is messed up so the internet just doesnt work, and Im getting 21 seconds ping times!). With the better speeds, there are way more packets at the tower now, causing a lot more interference.
But there is probably more too it.

Yeah my RSSI has gone up from 53 to 69/70 this evening. Wynberg, Cape Town Tower.

funny thing my rssi has gone from 74 - 87 , but my mate 2 houses down has had no signal change.
he gets 200 + kbps , but if im lucky ill get 50
crazy i tell ya.

I'm suffering the same, I'm not even going to bother checking up on anything - I will just get so angry etc.

Looks like Neotel is having some problems in Cape Town, this kind of massive signal degradation could only be one thing - a massive screw up on Neotel's part.

Had the same prob here in Pta, 1 day, all of a sudden my Signal went from 4 bars to 2/1, with my RSSI dropping from 65-70 to 95-100. It got so bad at times that i was connecting to another base station (God knows where) instead of the one 1.5km's away from me.

After a few days and no change i contacted the Neotel Rep, 2 days later still nothing so i contacted the CS *shudder* and was told a ticket was already logged. Few days later i got an e-mail informing me of maintenance.

And to my dismay... It actually got fixed! Took about a week and a half, but i suppose it shows it's not all doom and gloom, speeds are back to normal, and sometimes appear to be a bit better - have had a few occasions downloading at round 200kBps, but the RSSI is still slightly higher than usual (72-75).

Just thought i'd share... kinda feels like i won the lotto amongst all you lads :P
