Hi Guys

Just a friendly warning I recently had a run in with Matrix warehouse belville branch off durban road in capetown, I bought a power supply on reccomendation from their sales consultant which I suspect lead to my graphics card (GTX 690) being damaged.

They then suggested I claim under warranty as they did not agree and thought the card was just old, it was a gigabyte with a 3 year warranty, rektron swopped my faulty card after sending it all the way to jhb for a 'new' card, this is how the 'new' card looks:

This is a video of first power up of the 'replacement' card:

These are images of it's condition....

It is rusted and the bracket is bent, there is so much sand inside it I would imagine someone used it as a make shift shovel and the cherry on the cake as you can see from the images it is faulty....

Now i need to go back and give back my 'new' replacement and wait probably another 14 days for my next 'new' replacement which will probably also be faulty...

Not happy...what can I do to make sure these people are exposed?????

You are not going to like my viewpoint.

So you had a psu that damaged your gpu.

You took advice to defraud another company.

Card looks like it was used, you are exaggerating about sand.

Apologize to rectron for trying to defraud them and go back to where you bought the psu and claim damages from them.

Pic #2 is way out of focus, but I see your point, send it back and ask them for a new card

Normally if its an outdated card, they will give you today's equivalent, not a referb.

Isn't there a Rectron guy on this forum?

Contact Rectron directly after you **** on the manager at Matrix Warehouse.

I did not defraud anyone, I went to Matrix warehouse who flat out refused that the fact that they sold me a below spec psu could have caused damage and told me to claim on warranty, at which point did I commit fraud? Please tell me because you are sitting with a nice case of defamation of character biena.

What watt was this new PSU?

This is a technical forum and probably viewed by a few Rectron employees.

You publicly admitted on this forum what damaged the card and IMO made an invalid warranty claim against Rectron which could be considered fraudulent.

Good luck with getting a new card from them.

IMHO If you had handed the card into Rectron for a warranty claim and collected the replacement card yourself you should have examined the card before accepting it. Then you could have immediately rejected the replacement and spoken to management about your disatisfaction about the claim.

Your public warning on this forum was maybe a bit premature.

Also I agree with the poster above that you should be claiming damages from the power supplier seller if their terms and conditions cover consequential damage from a defective component.

Small claims court against the power supply supplier perhaps ?

So you did not tell us that the psu caused the damage ? funny that is in your first post.

The power supply was a Raidmax 730ss, Matrix warehouse maintains the card died due to it being old and nothing to do with the power supply these are my suspicions and has nothing to do with fraud, you are really walking a thin line accusing someone of fraud when you are interpreting things in a bias manner - probably because you have some vested interest, rather address the point at hand for me...do you think that this replacement in any way shape or form is satisfactory to a client claiming under warranty?

He didn't admit to defrauding anyone, he didn't defraud anyone, wtf is wrong with you people. He sent back a graphics card that stopped working. He thinks it was the power supply but matrix says it wasn't. That's what you do when something stops working and is under warranty. You send it back. They will either replace it or they won't after they've investigated. They may choose to repair it or not. If they replace it, they must replace it with a new one. ffs, people

These are my suspicions and not FACT, I am not a computer expert nor am I a manufacturer so it is simple deduction from my part. I have amended my original quote to have more of the 'facts' so that hopefully people can address the question at hand instead of nit picking over irrelevant stuff.

P.S I have posted this on Gigabyte UK's forum maybe I will get a more unbiased opinion from the manufacturer themselves, I will love to know what they think of Rectron's replacement with 'new' practices....

You right, please read my amended post.

That was my argument with them and my reason for thinking it caused the damage to the card....they disagreed.

The manager there said it worked fine on the power supply for a while so it was not the power supply....and that they had much more intensive rigs running from that very same power supply and that it was doubtfully the gtx 690 needed that many amps as even the rm1000 which I bought as a replacement from corsair doesn't push out that many amps on the 12v rail...

Yip, 83Amps is not more than 24A

/facepalm.

This is why I only buy thermal paste and SATA cables from Matrix.

Thanks for making me laugh mate it's a sad situation but I had a good chuckle at this comment...still leaves me 14 days later without a graphics card, a company who won't admit they broke my card and a company who replaced my card with a card that really looks like it needs a funeral not a desktop for a home.... and this after telling me over the phone they have assessed the damage and will be replacing my gtx 690 with a 'new' one....if they said second hand I understand but this....is NOT a new card.
