Hi guys,

How does one maximise a window to the full screen as it defaults to the centre of the screen with the sides showing the desktop? We have not logged more than 2-3hrs on the macbook so we are real noobs at this stage.

Right bottom hand corner you have to like drag it to the max for finder. Some applications makes it the biggest when you press the + button like safari and vlc etc

Watch the tutorial here at about 5:15 they discuss window behaviour.
Since os x is mainly drag and drop it makes sense to see the desktop and other windows.
Some applications have a fullscreen mode in the view menu (sometimes ⌘⏎).
