Hi.

Basically I'd like to know if there's a maximum length for normal telephone cable when running ADSL? In other words, what is the maximum allowable cable length from the Telkom box to your router before the signal degrades?

Also, are there different types of telephone cables (as in CAT5 or CAT6 for network cabling)

Thanks.

i've seen your previous thread you created but i see your question is a bit different here.

Basically Telkom used to use the solid conductor cable back in the olden days but now they should give you a twisted pair cable you can see the difference just by looking at the cable that comes in your house if it's flat on the outside then it's still the old cable.

The advantage of the twisted pair cable is that it insulates better against noise and it allows you AFAIK up to 3-4 telkom phone lines in one cable i.e. one fax line or a bonded ADSL line.

My router is connected to the telkom wall jack via a standard extension cable of +- 15 metres in length.
The router syncs at 4Mb/s and the connection is very stable.
Not exactly the most technical description you will encounter, but maybe it helps :-)
