Yep, as long as the ANC governs nationally it is only a matter of time before the rot reaches CT.
 
Mass protest to E-tolls unlikely: Government

A ground swell of protest to Gauteng's e-tolls once implemented is unlikely, acting GCIS CEO Phumla Williams said on Thursday.

"The increase of people already tagged does not indicate that a large number of people will be protesting," she told reporters in Pretoria following Cabinet's regular fortnightly Wednesday meeting.

"We believe we are a country of law-abiding citizens and a large number are already tagged."

She said the outcry over e-tolls had been over the tariffs being too high and not because people were against the user pay principle, and the issue of tariffs had been addressed.

Cabinet had welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal's dismissal of an Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) bid to stop e-tolls.

"Cabinet calls on users of Gauteng's freeways to abide by the law, demonstrate good citizenship, and make their contribution to a better South Africa by registering for e-tags and paying for use of these world-class roads," Williams said.

"The e-tolling system is one aspect of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project which has enhanced the movement of people and goods and will make the provincial and national economy more efficient in future."

Williams said Transport Minister Dipuo Peters would announce the date on which e-tolling would come into effect.

Does anyone know what the new gazetted tariffs are?

Your lies and deceit will not scare me. You might have scared old people and companies with no balls into this but not the road users at large.

Show us proof don't just tell us it has happened.

The actual tariffs are irrelevant. The fact is that those tariffs are orders of magnitude higher because of the incredibly inefficient tolling system that they chose. My protest isn't about paying for the roads, it's about paying more than what is required because some idiot in government made a decision based on how much money he can pocket instead of what's best for the citizens.

In my eyes the highways were degraded, adding in one lane and switching to tar over concrete isn't improving the highway and then the audacity to charge us tolls to use it, only cANCer can do that.

Yeah I wonder how many more fatalities there are now on the e-toll routes per year thanks to the delayed emergency response.

I hope that people realize that as soon as they have e-tags, there is nothing stopping government from increasing the e-tag prices, and doing away with the R450 limit.

There are still emergency lanes and at least there is better accident response now.

I see they don't have that "calculate your e-toll" page up on the Sanral site anymore so I can see where the gantries are so I can work out how to bypass them.

Not everywhere, on a lot of the roads they converted the emergency lane into an additional lane and there is no more emergency lane.
