Mbeki asked to step down

just a thought. what happens if he stands his ground and refuses to leave do you guys think there is a chance that he might be assissinated like what happened to his body guard or chris hani.

Parliament calls a vote of no confidence in the President. He is removed and a new President is voted in.

The President must be elected from within the National Assembly. Is JZ a member? If not they will need to dissolve parliament and call an election.

Well, only parliament can fire the President, not the ANC. However, as the ANC controls parliament it is only a matter of process.

They are now claiming the ANC is hypocritical in "firing" Thabo Mbeki on the basis of an unrelated court case, especially when they criticized Tbone when he fired Jacob Zuma on the basis of an unrelated court case.

Apparently what is good for the goose, seems to be of no concerned to the gander.

Same thing goes for rule of law...when it suits them they quote the ruling all the time and use it to further their agendas, but when it goes against them then they threaten to "kill" and go to war...What a complete bunch of Hypocrites!!!!

He is not currently one. But they will not call for an election now.

Got the answer. Jacob Zuma is ineligible for election as president as he is not a member of the Assembly. Elections will need to be called.

Elections before the end of the year! People get your ID books ready and vote! Now is the time to gain some ground on the ANC as voter turnout for the ANC will be at an all time (morale) low.

There is no need to call early elections. The speaker of parliament will take over as acting president according to the constitution given that the deputy pres has said she will step down if mbeki resigns.

Ooooh! Its get better: Thabo Mbeki can dissolve parliament and that means he is in power as President for another 90 days!

Wow I didn't know that we had so many TBone fans here. It's not like he was even in this country long enough to be president during his term.

A new president must be elected within 30 days. As Jacob Zuma is ineligible they will need to call early elections for him to take over.

can you provide me the link to the constitution that says that?

Won't happen timgual. Not even the ANC is that stupid(dare i say). The new acting pressie doesn't need to be JZ. Im sure he is willing to wait until next year.

Better the devil you know.

Helen is on! Helen for President!

I'd disagree, his lack of action and total disinterest in the country is exactly why things are the way they are. I'm pretty sure that in Zimbabwe they used that same line :p I think that this little bit of friction is exactly what we needed, else it would we a case of SSDD for the next 100 years.

Let's hope that the oppositions don't sit on their asses, this is a very good opportunity for them to cash in.

Mbeki could dissolve parliament as president. Then we will see. Next move is yours Tbone.

The new acting pressie doesn't need to be JZ

The new President (not Acting President) can't be JZ.

Looks to me that the way is paved for Kgalema to be Acting President until the elections next year (1d)
