Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki on Monday reiterated his call for an immediate end to attacks on foreign nationals.

"Citizens from other countries on the African continent and beyond are as human as we are and deserve to be treated with respect and dignity," the president said.

"We dehumanise ourselves the moment we start thinking of another person as less human than we are simply because they come from another country."

Eeeeerm... so what about the CITIZENS of the country? The victims of crime? The farmers who are murdered every day? Care to spare a word or two about their crisis? Oh no wait, there IS NO crime crises, right? Like you said yourself: "Crime is a perception created by white racists."

:mad::mad::mad:

Nobody accused them of being less than human Mr Mbeki - they just dont want to have to deal with your mistakes anymore! You are the root of this problem you **** ****!

Skinner you are one angry person. I suppose you have your reasons for feeling like you do. I need to ask you what you achieve by just quoting these news articles, making a statement and then just leave it at that.

I suppose he should just walk around saying "What crisis?"

Of course he is angry, and so am I.
This country is a disgrace - our leadership are morons, and we sink further into the mud every day.

If the ANC Government did their job properly, I would not have to quote and comment on articles like that in the first place, because there wouldn't be any.

And it seems that problems like this need to first be raised to top headline news, local and international, before T-Bone will bother taking some of his precious travelling/holiday time to make public statements about them!

As you may have heard, there type of xenophobic attacks were waiting to happen, and this is just the start... the tip of the iceberg, if you wish!

What is next? Attacks on whites? You bet. Just like Zim. OH wait, that is already nearly happening - at white farms every day. One boer, one bullet. Remember that one?

No not at all. But if we all stand on the side of the field and shout out the things that we see go wrong will it improve the situation? Maybe we will achieve more if we shout out some solutions. Or even better get of the stands and join the game?

Well yes. If your argument is that there must be greater awareness about the current government's incompetence so that the community at large can make an informed decision when we next vote - I agree. But if this is the case surely the tone should be different?

When people of my race get boo'ed in parliament, cheered for leaving, and so on, do you think there is room for our opinion?
On what platform can we participate?

Personally, and as sad as it is, things like the racist killings (i will not call them xenophobia) in the townships, are the only thing these people understand.

Okay, so practice what you preach and shout some solutions and suggest some actions you would personally take. Now.

Why don't you go first and shout out a solution to the stupidity and incompetence?
Have you left the stands and go and tried to stop the attacks? Or tried to talk to the perpetrators and convince them not to attack foreigners?

Listen we all blow off a little steam here, or would you rather most of us attack some innocent person on the street to vent?

Lets hear some of your positive solutions?

Also a lot of people in this country do their part, but are still fed up.

It is my right to be angry at people dying needlessly every day while the Fatcats that are suppose to help the poor masses turn their backs and grab more money for themselves from the gravy train.....

Dont you ever get angry at some woman/child being raped?
Or maybe some farmer getting tortured and killed?
Or corruption that cost the poor their lives and screw up the country for 95% of us so that 5% can be rich?

Or bury our heads and pretend that things are okay or make platitudes like 'he is trying his best'.

Nope - if they are wrong then they should hear about it. I most certainly am not going to bottle it up inside and get an ulcer from the actions of the idiots.

Now! Ok

I belong to a forum of people that meet regularly to discuss matters that affect our lives. Our goal was initially to get a better understanding of how all these things effect different people. The group is representative of all people in SA. Amazing how frivolous ones arguments are often when compared to the real live experiences and even just the difference in perspective.

Once we got over the uncomfortable issues and started respecting the differences we found that we could discuss matters without feeling that it’s a personal attack against what we stand for individually.

And soon we started asking the question: So what can we do about it. I admit that answering that question was not as easy as we would have liked. Sure we would have liked to transform the country into utopia with one swoop.

Since that question was not an easy one to provide an answer on the next one surfaced: Who is in a position to make a difference? Answer: Government.

Next: Who put them there? We did! How? By voting!!

We find ourselves in a self appointed role of trying to educate people on the importance of making a “educated” choice when we next get the opportunity to place a government in charge to start addressing the issues that we are faced with every day.

To the reader this might seem like a pointless exercise, one that will never get enough momentum to make a real difference. And that is the case unless more people start similar actions! Not on a huge scale, not to promote your own political ideology or for any other reason than making sure that we start taking ownership for what is happening in SA by exercising our vote.

And yes we still get angry when we see and hear of “bad” things happening; strangely this just strengthens our resolve to make a difference in our own way. Find it a better way of channeling the negative energy!

Actions speak louder than words. You missed the chance to stop the violence when it first started with normal measures, now it is time for drastic measures in order to keep it from escalating even further.

I have no doubt the mbeki will do nothing other than talk. The man is so utterly useless.

"We dehumanise ourselves the moment we start thinking of another person as less human than we are simply because they come from another country." + "or aren't the same race as us" + "aren't in the same class level as us"

I believe T bone just called himself an alien. Aren't they supposed to be of superioir intelligence? Ot alteast some intelligence?

Thing is, if you are going to ignore the cock-ups as examples you are not going to change the collective mind of the sheep. And even then some of them are very happy with the ineptitude, incompetence and corruption as long as JC doesn't make a sudden arrival.

I am happy that you have found a way to channel your energy and strength to you but you cannot impose your will upon those of us who will call a spade for what it is - that would just be replacing one hive mind for another.

Not guilty.
The day I vote for the ANC, is the day I get institutionalised.

Sure. But by claiming to be "not quilty" in voting for a goverment that's not living up to their obligations are you saying that's it? That's as far as I am willing to go?
