Our growth of around 5% over the last 5 years, while not dismal, is below the global average of 7% for all developing countries.

And simply put, if our economic growth continues at a pace slower than our population growth we're getting even further behind the curve.

And that applies both before and after 1994.

PS - the government is doing its utmost to increase the average wealth of individuals. Only, you'd think killing off the poorest to achive this would be frowned upon.

I know that in the 80's our development (be it for the white population only unfortunately) was on par with America.

The Apartheid story is far more complex than people care to reveal.

It is not a simple matter of what the whites have, was at the expense of the blacks. If that were true there would be more examples of far more advanced nations in Africa. The fact that you cannot show one as an example negates the point that black South Africans would have magically been capable of leading a first world lifestyle were there no such political policies like Apartheid.

The only realistic expectation black South Africans can hope for in a country where there is no cap on political liberty is freedom. What kind of welfare they can expect in this free state is up in the air, but the record doesn't show much hope for the majority in terms of escaping poverty. To do this there will need to be a new political policy (an unsustainable one) that will for a short period of time "give" the majority economic prosperity by taking it from others.

Zimbabwe tried this and the folks who took the farms had a better life for about a week.

Will we ever know the REAL reason why NPA Boss was Suspended ?

It just seems that Government wants to silence anybody that is trying to do his/her job to the best of their ability without thinking about politics.

What happened to" Prosecute without fear , favor or prejudice "?

We had sanctions against us in the 80s , the USA did not.

Would like to see evidence proving our development was on par with that of the USA during the 80s.
