Thinking a Momentus® XT Solid State Hybrid Drive might might be a nice upgrade for the 500gb 5400rpm drive in my MBP - anyone had any experience with these drives?

MBP = MacBookPro = laptop.I've got one in my main pc as my windows drive.. Has marginal performance increase over a standard drive, barely noticeable. Only my start-up tray seems to appear quicker... other than that nothing. I game and watch movies mostly on my pc. So it's kind of a waste if you ask me. Rather get 2x500GB and raid them
Update: with more real-world testing under our belts, Seagate's Momentus XT is receiving our rare Best of Tom's award for excellent performance. This new hybrid hard drive combines up to 500GB of storage and 4GB of flash memory to maximize performance.

Right now capacity is about as important to me as performance and that 160gb wouldnt even hold my working gallery.Rather wait for the Intel X25M at 600GB, or get the 300GB version when that comes out. Or if ya can't wait, get the X25M 160GB.
The price of these SSD is also prohibitive.Yeah that is the ideal solution. Problem is they're only coming out at the end of the year. And right now, an 80gb is R2400 or so, a 160gb is like R4000 at least. This is 500gb for R1400 and still quite a bit faster, so it's a decent interim solution.
Tom's hardware updated their review to includeBwana the review on Toms said it had very little to no performance gain over a standard drive. I would rather go solid state or use the drive you have.
Furthermore my current drive is a 5400 so even if the SSD component didnt give me an improvement on its own the 7200rpm drive does.Update: Our initial review provided all of the low-level and application test results. But because of a very short testing period, we could not include the real-world testing that would allow the Momentus XT to ‘learn’ and provide performance that is more similar to an SSD. We added these results to this article today, so check out the benchmark pages on PCMark Vantage (repeated), Windows Bootup, and Application Launch testing.

I'm shooting some cricket this afternoon so after the cloning is complete I'll try to remember to run some importing and processing tests on the photos with both drives and see what difference it makes as far as my needs go.
