MCITP or MCTS

Good day,
I would really appreciate it if anybody can give me some advice.
I want to move into the IT industry and need advice on what is the best course to study and get certification , and also how pointers on job availability and salary . So direction is the best MCITP or MCTS.

You start out with a MCTS, as you get this after doing one exam.

When you have done 4-5 MCTS exams you then get a MCTIP.

Rather look at the specific field you want to get into in IT and then choose the correct exams to do to get you there.

The books are available, and you can do the exams at any prometric exam venue. Estimated cost per exam with book and exam fee is about R1500-R2000 depending where you go.
 
What about MCSE? Is it possible to compare employment opportunities after obtaining and MCTS compared to MCSE?

As someone that has struggled to get into IT and eventually made it (I was 31 when I got into IT) I can say that seriously focus on even a lame certificate to just get you into the industry. Once in you will get exposed to the many opportunities and it will then become easier to select a career path.

Also, its rather easy to get into IT. I always expected people to turn me down because of no qualifications and as such never applied. Then when I did ask for a job I got it. Many companies are prepared to take you on as a junior with out experience or qualifications - even part-time. But realise that you will also only get a poor salary.

I have to disagree with you here on the above point. With the current economy, it is difficult to enter the industry. There are very very few junior jobs on the market.
 
At the moment , this is the direction I am looking to go :

MCTS .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications
MCITP: Database Administrator Certification

Any comments ?
 
If you're going MS, you may want to look at SharePoint certs - I see they are in demand... but general advice would be to see what lights your fire, and go for it!

Not giving anybody false hope that there are plenty of jobs, but there are enough jobs out there. Just remember that there is a difference between well paying jobs and those low paying slave ones.

Also many guys are not prepared to start at the bottom or accept alternate positions that they applied for. And a lot of guys have a bad attitude. A good attitude will make up for lack of experience, where a bad attitude will close doors regardless of your skills.

I got into IT by accepting a low paying retail management job (I come from a sales background). Within 15 mths I had two excellent job offers and 4yrs later I'm still really happy with the one I accepted.

But IT is also buddy-buddy and thats how I got my one bud in who then got his bud in.
 
Late reply... but rather late than never.

You say .NET 2.0? Rather go for .NET3.5.... you'll have to upgrade anyways.
Take a looks at Torque IT. They are the leading cert place in SA.
M$ exams go for ~R630 if you take into consideration the 10% discount in the cert books (I'm self studying my certs instead of doing it through anybody, as it's much cheaper).

Microsoft Press - <book name ie .net framework 3.5 asp.net application development training kit (includes cd with code, tests, ebook and 90 day trial of vs08)> <exam number ie 70-562>.
Costs ~R600-R1100 per book.
