KwaZulu-Natal MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs Nomsa Dube called on the national department of science and technology to investigate the causes of lightning after seven people in lightning strikes.

The MEC could perhaps visit a reputable South African university. Upon arrival he'd be directed to an engineering library where he'd find volumes upon volumes of research into lighting prevalence across the country by area, etc. A truck load of work has also been done into means & ways rural mud hut dwelling folk could use to protect themselves against lightning. Earth mats, rods, etc have all been looked into.
