Dear Honourable MEC Dube

I have acquired technology which can prevent such tragedy befalling our fellow rural South Africans. This technology is unfortunately very expensive, however, for a fee of R50 000 per dwelling, my company will be able to supply and install said technology for each household in danger of electricity strikes.

My company is not at this stage BEE certified, however, I am sure that can be rectified by appointing a family member of yours as a large stakeholder in the company.

I implore you Honourable MEC, to think of the lives you will be able to save and to make South Africa a better place for all.

It's not electricity strikes but Lightning... The Honourable MEC will be confused as this does not involve ESKOM :erm: :whistle:

What seems to be scary?
The fact that the MEC wants to investigate the cause of the lightning or the lightning itself or that lightning was new to Dube? :confused:
 
In the mec's defense, wits had done a lot of research into protecting people from lightning. So maybe the stupid question will lead to some positive results. Like an education drive on precautions and dispelling misconceptions common in african communities, like lightning herders. Shame. :(

imo she should refrain from off-the-cuff remarks and employ a spin-doctor!
 
first hiv doesn't cause aids, now thunderstorms doesn't cause lightning ?

They should ask Juju to make all the lightning stop, after he's done closure-ing Twitter and Google.
 
You know what's better than reading this article? Watching the news and seeing her talk about this new "phenomena" :D
 
To look at this from a different angle, perhaps the MEC meant that they should provide education those in informal settlements on how lightning occurs and how to avoid it?

now this is really irresponsible reporting... I for one do not believe this is what was actually said by the MEC.. (if u look through some of the comments on the article, it seems the timeslive has edited this report...)

honestly, the lightning strikes have been massive... take yesterday for eg. up in Gauteng.. i seen lightning hit buildings in a residential complex.. blew parts of the roof off.. awesome to watch but hectic scary (never seen that before)... over the past two weeks we have had some awesome LOUD storms....and this one.. Lightning claims 11 in E Cape, KZN dammmm...
with the Chinese messing around with seeding clouds for rain and bla bla bla mad scientist... bla bla profit...... who knows... never seen this much of rain for December in Pretoria...

It is a fact for this time in the year the intensity and frequency of lightning has increased. any investigation must be welcomed... or needed

Why are the rural people of KwaZulu-Natal so prone to lightning strikes? That's a question that has left a KwaZulu-Natal MEC so perplexed that she's called for a full-scale national probe.
