If you've used mechanical keyboards, which colour of switch do you prefer, and why? What mechanical keyboards, that are available in South Africa, would you recommend for typing? It seems that keyboards that are made by Cherry, aren't readily available in South Africa.

I favour MX Cherry Red first and Brown second. Don't much care for the others.

As for a specific keyboard, my 1st, 2nd and 3rd recommendation is the Corsair K70.

I have the Gigabyte Osmium with Brown switches. It's very nice, but my bro's Osmium with Red switches is better. And the K70 is easily the best keyboard I've ever come across. If you're into macro keys on the side then the K95 is also cool, but I can't stand those personally.

Cherry don’t make keyboards they make the switches that are used in keyboards

Look harder... Computer Mania, Matrix and nearly all online PC stores sell mechanical Cherry keyboards.

I've yet to see one on any online South African store. Note, I'm speaking of actual Cherry keyboards, not just keyboards that use Cherry switches.

That looks like crap tbh.

Well, it doesn't have fancy gaming features, it's just a solid workhorse, which is what I'm looking for: a solid typing keyboard, not too large or with a funny shape, and not with too many fancy features that I'll probably never use anyway and are just more things that can break.

Which is why Corsair mechanical keyboards are so popular. They're virtually indestructible and if you ever need to order cap, switch or LED replacements, it's relatively easy for SA customers.

Even my Gigabyte Osmium is many years old now and looks the same as when I bought it. Quality mechanical keyboards are supposed to last.

Thanks, I'll look into the Corsair K70.
