Mechanical keyboards

If you want the shortest travel go get a chiclet keyboard though.

I'll probably never buy a mechanical kyb using cherry, razer, romer, steelseries, kailh etc type switches, I like my scissor-switch keyboards and they also have a much lower profile.

The Corsair K70 has a low profile version:

There is also a regular height MX Silent K70:

The Red switches are pretty quiet. I will probably always opt for a regular height keyboard as I find the key travel and actuation combine for an experience that's super easy on the fingers for crazy amounts of typing and coding.

For typing, apparently mx brown is the way to go.

I have MX Brown switches in my Gigabyte Osmium. I rate MX Red as superior in all respects. Basically the same switch but with softer actuation. That said, I do like my keyboard.

Not sure when I'll buy a new one, because this thing looks the same as when I bought it many years ago.

Strangely enough I've not used a mechanical keyboard since the old AT keyboard days, but I did get a memchanical one just to see, and if a proper mechanical is better than that one, I'm going to get one. As the memchanical one feels better than my old Logitech membrane one as the travel is perfect they typing feel is better. Thinking of getting myself a mechanical and taking the memchanical to work.

I have recently acquired a Corsair K70 Mod 2 with Cherry MX Brown. Absolutely the bomb. I have been a software dev for 29 years now, and this is the second best keyboard I ever worked with. The best was those IBM keyboards that came with the IBM PS/2 Microchannel PCs that had a casing made out of metal. Wish I could get one of those in black.

I currently use the Anne Pro 2 at home with Gateron Brown switches:

For work I got the Akko 3068 with Cherry Red switches:

Love both to be honest. I prefer the sound of the Gateron browns, although too loud for work. On the other end I prefer having directional keys of the Akko for work.

Cherry Red.
I have a Corsair K70.
It is not too loud, and it has a satisfying click to it.

What's your opinion on Das keyboards? The local options for mechanical keyboards with Cherry MX switches seem to be Corsair and Ducky. Amazon delivers Das keyboards to South Africa and they have Cherry MX switches.

Take a look at this thread. IBM Model M keyboards are still available from the original factory.

Oh, and learn the diffs between linear (a la Cherry) and buckling spring switches.

Numerous keyboard afficionados on YouTube consider the IBM model M to be the greatest keyboard ever made. I see that the modern Unicomp remakes are considered to be pretty good but of lesser build quality.

I'm surprised they're not much the same. The Unicomps are made in the same factory using the same buckling spring switches. IBM sold the plant to its Lexington employees when it decided to get out of hardware.

I bought one some years ago in a fit of hipsterdom, and enjoyed the clickety clack for a while. Now it's, er, resting.

Where did you nab these prOd? from Amazon? I'm looking for a nice 60/65/tkl keyboard

Super Thread Necromancy a-go-go. Sweet Lord, got a replacement keyboard and it turns out it's mechanical and using blue switches. Which I assume were R&D project of the year for "The Loudest Keys in History". Before I lose my mind and throw it at someone, where can I buy some nice, quiet(er) red switches?

Make sure you can hot swap switches on your keyboard
