Mede8er or Playon HD

Got myself the PlayOn!HD today, together with Hitachi 1TB. The Esquire sale price and normal price of the unit is the same !
 
So I got me the Mede8or and 1TB Hitachi hard drive at Esquire today.

I'm extremely happy with it.

So I'm gonna go mess around with now. :D

I've been using my PlayonHD for a few weeks now and have come to the realisation that I am posting very little about it on here... it then also occurred to me that this is because it just does everything I want and expect it to do! :) It's like buying a new DVD player. You can only tell someone so many times that it plays all your DVDs like it is meant to :D
 
Pity the POHD! has no buttons on the unit itself, unlike the Mede8er. If the remote packs up you're stuffed?

Lance buddy quick question, how do you update the firmware on the device? Does it search for it its self or do you have to download it to lets say a flash drive etc? Also are you using wired or wireless internet on the device?

This is indeed true of most modern technology. Out of interest what buttons does the Mede8er have? Would you have full functionality without the remote?

The easiest method to update firmware, or the one I use, is extracting the latest firmware onto an empty USB flash disk. This is then plugged into one of the USB slots on the unit and you then go to "system update" on the system menu and it automatically installs the firmware and reboots. Other updates like samba and bit torrent are done over the air.


I'm using wireless as the unit is on the far side of the lounge from where the router is positioned.

Not full functionality but you will still be able to navigate menus and such.

It has UP / DOWN LEFT/RIGHT ENTER RETURN STOP and TV OUT.
 
I updated the FW to ver3.something.

Now you don't have to go into a folder to play a movie.

Theres some other changes as well. I'l have to read through the entire change log.

My friend will confirm this for me, but I'm guessing the basics - play/pause, stop, scroll up/down, volume up/down etc. So no, not full functionality as the remote would give you, but enough functionality to still be able to watch stuff should your remote pack up...
 
Can't wait to get this device, feel like a kid at Christmas. Just two more sleeps! I hope the wireless will work correctly as the PC's and Router are at the other end of the house.
 
Can anyone comment on the Playon!DVR. It looks very similar to the player, obviously just with the recording function? Know where you can get one?

They added recording of internet radio to the PlayonHD via the latest firmware.... perhaps with luck PVR functionality will be added down the line. With the DVR in their stable it is something they are clearly capable of doing.
