The laptop I'm using as a media player in the lounge is starting to BSOD on me and I think it's on it's last legs. So I need something to replace it. Must be able to:

Connect via wifi
Play movies/series etc stored on my main PC(including HD MKV stuff)
Stream YouTube
Stream Supersport
Be able to plug in a keyboard and mouse to navigate
Have an RCA or mini jack audio output to connect to my amp

What can do this? Need it's name and some recommendations please

Not sure if these can do all of that but:

WD Live TV/WD Media Player
Roku 3
Med8or

Pretty crap choices considering no XBMC.
Those devices don't let you install stuff and have ugly interfaces.

Just no man. Don't give advice on this topic again because your recommendations are just terrible.

@OP: Get a DroidTV, it runs Google Android and lets you install stuff. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, XBMC, Plex, Facebook, Supersport you name it.
There's a massive thread on these devices, right here

I would personally recommend an MXIII, if you can get it. +-R1200, so a lot cheaper than most Media Players!
AVSupply is also a great place to buy from, by the way. He's also an acive member in the DroidTV thread, if you need assistance with anything (He's pretty clued up)

Once you've seen a DroidTV running XBMC you will not want a Roku, and especially not a WD or Mede8er

I'm using a old HP 630 laptop with a cracked screen as my media player. It does everything you require and more and can be picked up for cheap.

I'm sorry Hamster, it just irks me when someone asks "Please recommend me some good heaphones" for example, and another person answers "beats by Dre".
It just doesn't help the OP at all... bad recommendations actually harm the person, as he may end up wasting R1000 or more on a dud product. :erm:

What Keeper said.

Been using an Android/XBMC box for almost a year and loving it. I strongly second the AVSupply recommendation

These aren't "bad" recommendations. They aren't as full featured as a media PC but for the layman they are great - you plug them into the TV, you plug the HDDs into them and they work. If streaming was a big deal to the OP the Roku cannot be omitted as an option.

And for the price you pay (under R1300) these devices 're much cheaper than buying another laptop or media PC.

DroidTV and XBMC.

My setup can play full Blu Ray copies 50GB+ without issues.

DroidTV looks absolutely perfect!

Do the makes/manufacturers make any difference? MG582? MXIII? Is all gibberish to me ;)

Also on the thread linked they're saying Supersport is DRM'd, knowing DSTV this isn't gonna change soon and is not an option I can go without.

DroidTV added to someone's wishlist :)

I'd have recommended the Roku3 but hey i ended up getting some recommendations myself

+1 to the DroidTV box for your needs.

For those with a Roku device (not sure if all models support it), if you have an Android device and want to watch Supersport on the Roku you can. Just enable Screen Mirroring on the Roku (http://support.roku.com/entries/56698214-Roku-screen-mirroring-compatible-devices), start the Supersport app on your Android device and then connect to the wireless display. It works perfectly - if your Supersport app works.
