HI,

Currently I use a Linux box as my Media Player / Download box... But this seems to be an overkill. I would like to replace it with a nice small media player, but the following are features that I need.

  1. HDMI 1.4
  2. Intenal SATA 3.5" with min 2TB support
  3. BitTorrent Client
  4. Decent Remote

The most important is the HDD and Torrent support

Thanks :D

Torrents are so yesterday. ;)

Hp proliant micro server with openelec, sickbeard and sabnzbd and an nvidia gt520 ftw.

To add to that - Constellation for iPad. Best remote EVER (but a bit slow to start up sometimes so I've also bought this but it only arrived today, so I can't comment on how well it works.

The Proliant microserver is in the region of R1300. It comes with 2GB of RAM and a 250GB internal SATA disk. There are 4 sata rack-type slots, it supports RAID, and has 7 USB ports.

GT520 card for R450-ish for full HDMI1.4 support.

Currently I run a media PC and it is really starting to irritate me. Now I know it's all software related and I can set it up in way that will not irritate me, but an entire PC for something so simple seems like an overkill

AppleTV3 once they release a jailbreak for it will rock your socks off I reckon.

If you really don't like to tinker, then wd tv - the new one.

If you download TV shows then hp microserver + xbmc + sickbeard + sabnzbd

It may support some USB dongles. I don't know. Mine is wired.

Of course. :o. I've been running wireless so long I forgot the router came with a little cable. Like I said stupid question. Thanx sinbad. But this leaves me with another delemma. Room where I want to setup media PC has the worst reception.
Is it possible to leave 3g where it is and connect the server via wifi extender. I.e. secondary tp-link router?

You have a 3g wifi router + modem with a LAN port?

You want to keep the existing router where it is and then use a wifi extender plugged into the media PC?

In that case just get a wifi dongle. There's no benefit in getting an extender just to plug into your media PC.

There'll probably be info regarding what works in the net.

+1 for the HP + XBMC

The HP is as much a PC as the WD TV Live, Medi8tor or AppleTV....except that it offers you more flexibility with XBMC and hard drive Capacity.
