been fighting with them since yesterday... Ordered one at R599 on Tuesday, but couldnt check out. Wednesday price went up to R999, then today at R1199. the Was price also changed from 1199 to 1399. this item was launched on the 7th March, so takealot has basically changed both the Rsp from 599 to 1199. However, the odd thing is, how could there be a was price as if to say you are saving, which is kind of misleading.

I don't know if Im going to continue with them. I picked up a Fire Tv for 1k from a member off here. But I've been promised a call twice, and it hasn't happened by Takaealot.

But just a warning for those thinking about ordering a remix mini off them. Rather look online somewhere else

Looks like it's a Jide issue this time, not profiteering. The Jide store now lists the 16Gb Mini at $89.99 -

Maybe Jide were willing to make a loss on a certain number of units but they hit that target really quick. It's still cheap at R1399.00 or R1199.00 or anything less than ~R1750.00 or so given the way tech prices are inflated normally.

this is the response i got from Takealot.. Im absolutely shocked, either their buyer is incompetent, or they dont know how to get enough stock in, or their supplier is super amazing at getting stock quickly to them every day for 4 days straight, with them having sold out every day :erm:

That's the problem with these cheap 'slapped together, ship & forget' devices.


With the Rand/$ now under R15 and the special only on until tomorrow for any HPH Media Player, people should grab the chance before it's too late and the price goes up again from the 1st April. You get double the hardware for a cheaper price you will pay locally for a worse product.

I wouldn't touch a 1GB RAM android device with a stick. It's going to be crawling. I agree with xbmcfan the HPH looks better.
 
Just some limitations of tv sticks or small storage/RAM devices to inform people

The Android OS eg. Lollipop already uses 1GB of RAM, if very optimized it can use about 850MB.
Then for Kodi you will need to set it to cache to RAM eg. a 150mb buffer will use 3x that, about 450MB.
Caching videos to internal storage wears out the EMMC storage chip and is not good for the lifespan of your device, it also makes everything run slower if there are still cached files left.
Installing several addons in Kodi can easily make Kodi use up to 2GB of storage by its own and then you have no space left for other things.
Lots of Android games are also now in the region of 1-2GB in size after downloading all their extra data files.
With a 8GB device you only have 1 or 2 GB of storage for app installs but with a 16GB device you can have universal storage with most custom firmwares that allow you to have a single 12GB storage for app installs.
Sticks also have internal wifi that is usually very weak compared to external antennas.
Running sticks for a long period can also cause heating problems if there aren't extra cooling or a cool environment as all the chips have to be packed much closer together and there aren't space for heatsinks etc.
TV Sticks also don't have ethernet ports, limited USB ports to attach external hard drivers or airmouses or remotes.
There is also no IR port so you will need to use a wireless remote and buy it extra, will use up the only USB port if there is only 1.
To attach extra USB devices, you will need an extra USB Hub to hang from your tv stick from the tv that is clumsy.
Then you will also have to buy a stronger power adapter as tv sticks usually ship with only 1A chargers compared to tv boxes that ship with 2-3A ones.
It's better to invest a little more and get a better device for the long term.
