Microsoft made a stupid, clumsy and lazy as heck effort at squashing the term “netbook” from the minds of all of mankind’s collective memory at the COMPUTEX show in Taiwan recently by spewing forth a terms that will put Steve Guggenheimer (Microsoft OEM division corporate vice president) on the hit list of pretty much any blogger out there looking for something interesting to write.

Meet the Microsoft LCSNPC

S'funny how people see horns and pitchfork in such trivialities. Sigh - another conspiracy redux. Reminds me of the time when Personal Computer and PC were proprietary names owned by the giant IBM (which was twice as big as the next 10 computer companies combined), and people saw an IBM conspiracy in using "PC" as opposed to "microcomputer". Gallons of ink were spilled on speculating about Big Blue's divide and rule conspiracy. I'll bet my bottom dollar it's in innocent internal phrase to more accurately describe that segment in generic terms, and absolutely no attempt to foist it on the industry.

It must be a slow news month.

It's a blog. Why these make it into the "Broadband & IT News Articles" section is probably a more pertinent question.

Hey! I am not a news journalist. Don't confuse me with them. I am an opinionated blogger and this is a discussion on a blog, not a news article or something you will easily see published anywhere but online in a blogging section. I don't follow the WWWW rules of journalism. I see something, I interpret it and I give my opinion if need be. :D

The blog posts are drawn into the IT NEWS section of the forum automatically by a script that does so under RPM's username, hence his name on this forum thread but the link goes to a blog article. Most of the stuff in the news section however is news written by journos but the blog items are not to be confused with proper news items generated by a team of dedicated journos. Their articles will be properly labeled and will be available in the TECH NEWS area: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/

Blogs are here: http://mybroadband.co.za/blogs/

I doubt it is a slow news month as there are tons of stories breaking left, right and centre. I just comment on them from time to time. :)

Yup it is a blog and sometimes they can be informative, hence they are listed here. We try to keep it fresh and interesting. It isn't really news (at least I don't consider my blog posts news) but they do discuss current tech topics that may be covered in the news. :)

Arthur, may have his opinion on what happened at COMPUTEX but the truth is that there are plenty of people, espcially folks in NEWS, who do see this as an effort by Microsoft to move away from the term NETBOOK. This was simply interesting and worth sharing. I did not mean for it to be news, for if it were news it would not pass the criteria of good news reporting. It was an opinion.

I hope you are not "Staff writer".

Agree, at least come up with a catchy acronym that's pronounceable. (As any acronym must be).
