Mega 100WR / WR2 Firmware Release ...

Hi Broadcom & PsyClown ,

Broadcom : Try looking under /sbin ... ;)

Hi 2C

Are you referring to /usr/sbin/cm_cli ? I have no idea how to use this, it seems to be a proprietary Texas Instruments tool with a very cryptic interface. Is there any documentation on it?

What is missing in the new firmware (99.70.4r) is /usr/bin/cmcli, which is the universal 'Cisco type' CLI prompt shell. The file is big though, was there not enough space to include it?

not too keen on the new firmware if its gonna kill the routing method. though hopefully it soon won't be necessary

Thanks for the fast reply

I have tried downloading this on my PC, asked a friend to download it, and also downloaded it straight from your web server onto my dedicated colo at MTNNS, neither worked. I've tried unzipping with Windows's shell unzip and it STOPS at around 70% with "file is corrupt can not continue". I then tried 7-zip and WinRar and with both of those got a CRC checksum fail.

The file is definitely corrupt, and it's corrupt on your webserver's side. Could you please clear your cache and redownload it from that address and check for yourself.
If anybody else reading this could please also check and confirm? The URL is http://www.telkomphones.co.za//firmware/mega 100wr/FW 99.70.2n.zip and I'm 100% certain its broken.

(ps. why should there be any reason for you to limit your comments? if people require support they should receive response, especially if something is broken and it's not their own mistake. You should appreciate such feedback, before an influx of other angry customers who disregarded the checksum fail flashed their router anyway come to you demanding a replacement.)

try not using any downloading tools but rather the default one with ur browser and see if it makes a difference once downloaded.

Thanks for the suggestion man, but I have done that (first download was over browser. In fact I've tried IE and Firefox.). I've wasted over 100MB redownloading this thing, and wont download it again until I know it's been fixed.
The archive is broken. As you can see I'm not the only one, and I've even asked friends over IRC to test it for me and they confirmed it for me.

Nobody can tell me why its necessary to install this firmware patch?

My ADSL is running smoothly and I dont want to mess with it unless there is a need to.

Wino,

The Web link that I gave in the original posting in the Thread briefly outlines the reasons for the firmware .....

If you have a Mega 100WR , I would NOT recomend upgrading to 99.70.2n, because of the posibility of corruption should anything go wrong , UNLESS you wish to use more than 1 PPPoE connection, or use some of the additional features that are found on the WR2 ...

If you are happy with the connection that you have at the moment, and do not require the extra features, then there is no reason to upgrade firmware.

If you have a WR2, then the upgrade is quite strait forward, so there no reason to not upgrade.

hope this helps,

I must be going blind because I still don't see a list of the features/fixes contained in the firmware upgrade, but it doesn't matter because I will not be installing it.
Was just curious.

2c - but it would seem broadcom has found a reason as to not upgrade the Mega 100WR2 as the Texas Instruments CLI is lost

Indeed upgrading the 100WR is risky. Mine got half way and then got stuck at "Receiving IP from modem" or something.. sat there for like 20 minutes and I realized nothign was happening. I then had to reboot the modem and manually set dtim1,2,3,4 env vars and only then could i flash again... almost thought I'd bricked it, and it wasnt a nice feeling at all. all working great now though, thanks

following on my previous post, I eventually copied each of the files out of the compressed file with the windows compression solution. This seemed to work somehow, doesn't make sense but at least I know the archive is not broken.

i got a bit of a problem...ever since i updated the firmware, when i goto sites, it comes up with random errors. The one is "page not found", but when i reload the page, it works fine. The other is "cache error. Tinyproxy was unable to load cache" or something like that.

Any ideas?

Could anyone explain yet
"What is the difference between the 100WR2 and the 105WR?"
Where does one get a manual for the 105WR or is it the same as the 100WR ?
