Melon Mobile Launching Soon?

POrting on VOICE seems to have gone well, but I am getting a flkashing network *5g) icon.. wondering if Afrihost causing nonsense there
 
I've been with Melon for about a year now. Started with an eSIM in iPad (unlike MTN and Vodacom, Melon have the technology to put an eSIM on a device that doesn’t get SMSs. Then I put them as a backup SIM on my phone. 10GB and unlimited calls for R300, and, most importantly, a number that has never been used before and gets no spam whatsoever.

So while VoLTE is enabled on the SIM, I don't see any system tray icon or indicator that it is working.

This is likely because I'm running a XIAOMI.EU ROM on my phone, and a little more tinkering would be required. It's not high on my priority list, but I will see what I can do and give feedback.

No-one likes the hassle of phoning up a network provider to get out of a contract. What a schlep. Luckily, we have a few melons who are ready to do it for you. All you need to do is give us permission. We’ll do the rest.

I did it, and switched seamlessly from Telkom Mobile to Melon.

Their service is really great.

The same way I would watch any 8K content on my 100/100 fiber at home.

However, in reality I would only watch 4K, because I do not have a device capable of displaying 8K, and I doubt most other people do.

So I took a road trip from Cape Town to Matjiesfontein, and only lost reception for a short while at the Hex River Pass.

Yesterday morning we left Matjiesfontein for Sutherland and for a considerable portion of that drive we had no reception. Neither Melon nor Vodacom.

When reception was restored it was 4G.

I can't complain, I'm no worse off than on Telkom Mobile, and I do feel even the 4G performance is somewhat better.

This might not be network related, but rather mobile package related. On my Telkom "Big 5 Promo" package I never had 5G, so performance might have also been managed a bit.

All in all, I am happy with Melon so far. I suppose there is no need for further feedback from me, other than this last post about this topic. This is a notification I just received.

I am not sure why I received it, and it doesn't show as a billable item on my account statement. Perhaps a promo I was not aware of.
