Ok, will try and do this short and sweet :p

Currently have 4GB (2x2GB) Kingston DDR-2 @ 800Mhz on a Biostar P43-A5 mobo.

Looking at getting Corsair DDR3-1333 4GB (2x2GB) XMS3.

Why I don't know...

But now there are obvious limitations that will arise from my mobo right?
As the board only supports DDR-2 dimm slots?
Will I have an issue on the following:

  • Trying to install and run the DDR-3 RAM on my mobo?
  • Trying to run the DDR-3 RAM together with the DDR-2 RAM?
  • If it is possible to run the DDR-3 RAM on the current mobo - is it best to just run it on it's own?
  • And if so, what performance difference (if anything) am I going to see?

Complete specs for rig if needed are:

Biostar P43|E7400 @ 2.8GHz|4GB Kingston DDR-2 800MHz|GeForce 8800 GTS 320mb|1x1TB Samsung SataII, 1x250GB Seagate SataII|
|Samsung 2233GW|500 watt PSU|Windows XP x32, Win7 RC1 x64, Kubuntu 9.04|

DDR-3 will only run in a DDR-3 mobo:) And DDR-3 will not run with DDR-2 ram.
And lastly performance increase to DDR-3 won't be that great;)

I think they are ......... the DDR3 won't fit the DDR2 slots Shake.

Haha - no don't think I can do the monitor.
Hate this upgrade itch.
Just hope my car finance goes through and then I can stop this PC nonsense, cos I hope I shouldn't be able to afford the bug anymore :p

Car goodies only compromise of my sound system, which I have in my current car.

As for further custimization, so done with that.
Learned a very hard lesson in the past & won't bother again:(

This is like saying "I have this square and it won't fit into this circle....?"
