Just be careful that you buy condoms free of Nonoxynol-9. It increases HIV transmission, is carcinogenic, increases chances of cervical cancer, etc etc. Basically, its death.

What you're referring to is the median (middle value within the range), not the average. Average is the sum of all values divided by number of items.
Definition of average: "approximating the statistical norm or expected value of the data set."
Average is more significant than the median, the median is more an indicator of range than whats expected/normal etc.
For example, you could probably say the median income in SA is a couple of million a year. But that doesn't give you any idea about the income of most people in SA.
