GTi is kids toys. There is not Pas(gekoop)sat(gery) that comes close to a Insignia OPC.

If I ever do buy a Mercedes or BMW I will most certainly get one with an automatic transmission. They are not that sluggish, even the 5 speed ones are quite adaptive, and for that money it is part of the luxury that comes with the car.
 
I drove a Gti 6 manual and a 125i auto in terms of a drive I'd go with a GTi anyday. The only thing I like about the DSG is the sound though, otherwise I a manual fan. I just find the Gti being more sporty, more involving and lots of fun than the Beemer. I know most people will disagree . About two years ago I also drove my friends 135i Auto and never enjoyed the hard take off's because it felt like there was something wrong, I dont know whether the engine was too powerful for the gearbox or what , but it felt like I was abusing the car . It was not as smooth as I would have liked or as I find the DSG to be.

Same thing I felt with the 135i Auto.

Have you driven it? Especially the DSG?

CVT's only redline when you floor them. It then does what you ask by getting the revs up to max power and it keeps it there until you ease off. Cruising at 160 should be around 3000-3500 rpm with that kind of car.

I've driven the A4 1.8T with multitronic transmission. You have to adjust your driving style to the CVT, and it will only redline if you plant your foot flat

I was seriously considering buying an auto A4 until I test drove the 1.8T. Everything about the car is great except for the boring drive. The 2.0TDI is better but still disappointing. Coming from a DSG box it's hard to switch over.

No, but I have driven an RS4. Lucky I don't own one cause they are helluva pricey even when standing still. They are nice cars, but the Mercedes options are just better and classier.
