Merc A-Class VS Audi A3 Sportback

So you're saying a 2013 Audi didn't improve from a 2003 Audi? Have you driven a 2012/3 Audi/Merc?

The underlying assumption would most likely be that, if Audi improved so did Merc. The question should be, is Audi on par or ahead of Merc?

Roux, ever since your post that the Chev Spark is not a bad car, I just cannot take you seriously anymore :D
Oh if only I had a rand for every time when people told me since when they don't take me seriously any more...

The real difference in tactile feel and interior quality will appear in 10 years time. VAG products have a very high level of perceived quality, but with time the quality and perception fades. You don't get that in a proper car like a Mercedes.

That's odd, had a 2002 A4 with over 250,000 on it and it still looked like new inside and out.
A Merc W124 is a different story, built like a tank. But now days Mercs are just another mass produced car. Nothing special.

How dare you make that statement. You have insulted the Rouxenator.

:)

Can't speak for Mercs but my dads 2005 A4 1.8 T Sport's gearbox has gone to sheet. Not great. The fixing costs are ridiculous but it doesn't matter. I still like Audi's. Mercs lately just don't feel that "classy" anymore. You can get more class with a well suited BMW or A6 nowadays.

Anyway.

I have this thing about the 3 German luxury/sport makes. This theory is only for guys and is quite generalized also applies to new cars and not second hand.
BMW = Young men who landed arse first into a well paying job and want something that looks mean and goes like the clappers. Also wears sporty Oakleys and can only afford the car from the high car allowance.

Audi = middle aged/well established businessmen who have a family and usually buy sports models for the midlife crisis. Practical, reliable and fast.

Mercedes = Old farts who refuse to drive faster than 10km under the speed limit. Life for them has all come up to the point were he blows all his investments on a 2 door AMG but heart/reaction speed cannot keep up with the car.

I completely agree with the above.

Especially the bolded part.

True, my folks have 2003 W203 and it has been criticised in the media for having shoddy build quality, especially the RHD models we export to the UK. However the one we have is still solid and everything works like you would expect in a Mercedes. I have been in A4s of the same age that show more wear and tear inside.

Apart from that Mercedes just has a class to it that late comers like Audi do not have.

<troll>
If you want to drive a late comer to the German quality scene then forget VAG...

I really like the look of Audi in general but something about the A3 sportsback reminds me just a little of a station wagon.

Saw an A250 with the AMG sport body kit while I was sipping on a beer :wtf: Holy sheeeet that thing is good looking!

Facebook Like. That thing is beautiful. I love it to bits. And not hatch compares to it currently.

The thing with Audi interiors is they way the dashboard is laid out. Makes me feel like I am driving a 1980's Pontiac Trans-Am fitted with a computer system called KITT.

Audi all the way.

Does Merc offer a proper maintenance plan now or is it still the one where incremental costs are incurred at the specific service intervals?

MobiloDrive 120 is the standard maintenance plan that offers you complete peace of mind motoring for the first 120 000km / 6 years, whichever occurs first, with no contribution at all during the first 60 000 kilometres.

Anyway, maybe read a few online reviews before deciding.

This is the 1st one I clicked on...

I've got a 2004 Audi A4 2.4 Multitronic. Other than a gearbox overall that cost Motorite R28k , touch wood, I've had no major issues with the vehicle. Interior is immaculate!!
