A. Better looking, less common.

If resale is important to you then go with the Golf.

In no way am I a VW fan, but the A250 AMG is a slouch, Golf 7 GTI will eat it for breakfast.

I have the A200 and I feel that it is a bit under powered @ 115KW also the 7 speed gearbox is not as responsive as most other German brands

Don't know the Golf specs but I've heard nothing but good things about the DSG box.

1 major thing to keep in mind is that the Merc comes with a 6 year maintenance plan whereas the Golf only has a service plan i think

The OP is talking about the A200 and (one assumes) the 1.4 TSI golf. They both do 0-100 in 8.4 seconds, but the A200 has a higher top end.

Do not be like a Chatsworth and Phoenix charou. Go for the Merc like I did - you will thank yourself in the years to come.

It sure will, and it will still remain an overweight bloated grossly oversold lacking flair classless act, patrolling the streets, ready to eat its next rival, getting more and more kommin every kilo.

I'm a little confused by some of the references to a A250AMG. Merc's website shows a A250 Sport and a A45 AMG, but no A250 AMG.

It's a body kit that includes an amg badge. Real amgs have a 2 digit model designator (eg 45).

I have an A250 - when it hits its straps its a fast car - cant comment on speed of the G7 GTI, none want to race me.

@OP, I would go with the Merc, much better looks, comfortable ride and a good head turner. But you will need to drive both and see which one is best for you.

As much as I love the G7 GTI I prefer ever so slightly the A250 (Sport) AMG.
