It sure will, and it will still remain an overweight bloated grossly oversold lacking flair classless act, patrolling the streets, ready to eat its next rival, getting more and more kommin every kilo.

Cant agree more, but the new Merc is not worth the money.

The Golf will probably hold it's resale value better, but the new A Class is very good looking and classy. Can't go wrong with either of those 2 cars, drive them both and then choose.

+1 sadly it seems no German car in this country is affordable any more.

That being said, if you hold a gun to me head and I HAVE to choose between those two, it will be the Merc. Wont find me dead in a VAG product.

Cool, Here goes nothing. Coming from someone who test drove the A class and the Golf 7 and decided on the Golf Highline with the R line package.

Dont get me wrong i love Mercedes, when i am done with VW i am getting a Merc. But unfortunately the A class is a disappointment. Not all of them though. A250 and the A45, yes i would choose them over the GTI and the R.

Everyone has preferences and i think you can draw yours
Cost:
- Golf 390K
With (sunroof, pdc, leather seats, xenon lights, r line package, 18" Serron rims, ect)

- Merc A200 404K
You still have to get cruise control, leather seats, sunroof, even an arm rest etc)
By the time you get to the level of things that come standard with the golf you will be hitting the 450K mark(chances are)

Resale value
-No comment

Performance
-Golf 103kw, 250nm
-A200 115kw, 250nm

Do your research before deciding. If i was faced with the same choice again, i will get the Golf all over again

The biggest misconception here is that a VW has good resale value. That is complete and utter crap.

The dealer has offered (they phoned us to ask) to buy back my wife's GTI for more than we paid for it 6 months ago. It holds its value pretty well...

Erm ... did you buy it brand new ? Are you getting something more expensive from them?

If driven long enough the resale value is completely negligible. The reason why VW is perceived to have a high resale value is people trade them in sooner to avoid the issues you get from owning them in the long run. If you keep one for 15 years it will not fetch any more or less than other cars of the same age and mileage.

Our VW has held it's value far beyond what our Subaru has. Not hi-jacked yet either :D
