Messi vs Ronaldo

Pele was Pele because he stood head and shoulders above every Brazilian that came before him and because he won so many trophies. The mere fact that he was a god among gods in Brazil is why his legacy is so enduring.

Maradonna is famous not because he was a brilliant footballer, but because he took mediocre sides to major trophies. Argentina would have been piss poor without him, ditto for Napoli who have never recovered form losing him.

Very few people will be able to get to those lofty heights again. Messi might, but lets wait and see. Zidane was the creme de la creme of an extremely talent filled French generation, but he was a late bloomer, thus his legacy is dampened somewhat. He was also part of the Galacticos and I can tell you that he would have been even more famous had he gone to a club where he would have won more trophies.

History isn't only about how good you are, but about the circumstances in which you play - if you look at Pele and Maradonna, this is doubly true!

so are you saying Zidane wasnt the superstar of the last decade ? asking :D
cause uefa seems to think so ,giving him the prestigious gold jubilee award in 2004 being voted the greatest european footballer of the last 50 years ahead of legends like Cryff ,Platini,Eusebio etc not to mention the 3 fifa world player awards ,ballon D'or ,golden ball awards he received ,you say he played in a great french team ,however when he was injured in 2002 WC france went out in the group stage not even scoring a goal ,he then retired from intl footy in 2004 ,France were on their way to not qualifying for the 2006 WC ,when they asked him to come out of retirement to help the team ,that same team then won all their games and qualified,which he then captained the team to the WC final tearing Brazil apart single handed ,So i would disagree with you in saying Zidane achievements are not that great cause he played in a great french team ;)

fyi he made that french team great like all greats do :)

maybe i wasnt understandable enough in my answer. i think he as the superstar of the last decade, but he pissed it up with his stint at real madrid. fyi... he was the creme de la creme of 98 & 2000... where any one of those players would have walked into the first team of any squad in the world. 2002 was already the middle of the end ;)
 
I dont think its the Real Madrid factor. I just dont think he is good enough.

I said it last season. Terry said it on MNF as well, if it wasnt for Rooney and Tevez, Ronaldo wouldnt stand out. This season is evidence of that.

Mark my words, if Ronaldo moves to Madrid. He will be nothing special.

Uhhh... I seem to recall that the last time we had this conversation, you said Ronaldo DID deserve his accolades last season, now you're saying no. Which is it, just for the record?

For me, Ronaldo isnt playing differently to last season. He just doesnt have the workhorses setting him up anymore. Rooney scored 12 goals last season, purely cos he was playing for Ronaldo.

Its nice to see Rooney playing for himselff and scoring goals.
 
As far as I understand... Genius still stands by his words that Ronaldo deserved the accolades afforded to him last season. He is just saying, as are many people, that more praise should go to Tevez and Rooney for their hard work in the middle-final third that enabled Ronaldo to roam freely and get into the positions he got. Well... that and falling over like cry baby to get all those freekicks (which are undoubtedly amazing and thanks only to his skill and practice).
