Meta Quest 3 local availability

Only played for around an hour with it.
When I was setting it up at work, the passthrough quality was around 720p.

At home with much poorer lighting it's around 480p/360p

Speakers are much louder, had to turn it down.

The new guardian just works, it's pretty trippy too, you walk and it creates itself, draws meshes of obstacles.

Played a bit of Elven table tennis in mixed reality. Realized I can actually see if an actual table tennis table would fit in my room. Can see some body tracking going on with the arms, way too accurate when I bend my arms.

I hated that feature on Quest2, but it just works on Quest3

Also that game has nice settings and could do 1.4 anti aliasing @ 120hz in MR
Who do you play against, is it a virtual opponent?
Indeed the guardian sounds cool.

It's fully featured. It has all the bells including multiplayer, beer pong, AI opponents that are easy to practically impossible.

Only issue is finding a opponent with low ping, but I have played it with my brother once on Quest2.
The controller tracking of Quest3 is much better than Quest2 thus far.

Just want to try Walkabout minigolf when I get the chance, because in that game you needed to kind of look at the ball when making the putt, if you lined it up and looked at the hole in front it would lose tracking.
If that works than it's perfect for "Sport Games"

Have you played around with it much? What are your thoughts on it?
I had a Quest 2 before, so from that:
- Form-factor is great, feels more comfortable on my head than the Q2 and the controllers feel better too.
- Display quality is better so that alone makes it a nice upgrade.
- Boundary control is so much easier to setup..
- The AR is amazing but the few games out feel more like tech demo's than actual games, but I need to look around some more.
- Hand gestures are way more accurate too, but outside of the menus haven't found any games/content to really make use of them..

Overall I'd say it's a nice upgrade and I'm happy I purchased it, but hasn't fundamentally changed my VR usage. The AR is great tech and definitely has massive potential but there just isn't much out there to try it out on - I'd imagine in a year that would have improved.

Can you use your Quest 2 games library?

QUEST3 works outside btw. This is something I always wanted, now I can play pool or table tennis outside.
Can also take AR a step futher. Virtual Desktop has a AR feature, which kind of works like a green green, but the Green screen is in VR.

So if you really wanted to be the ultimate nerd, you could go to a field. Set up a pc up with wireless connection, power station/tent?
Download a green level in Blade and Sorcery, and ya run around fighting enemies in AR.
I also see some experimentation with the Unreal Injector, where they played Tekken7 in AR.

So if you want to tinker around and look like an idiot in public, there is potential.

People are still saying not to use Quest 3 outside, unless you're 100% sure you can somehow prevent the lenses being damaged by the sunlight. But yeah, the idea of large open spaces for VR/AR gaming seems awesome. I've even considered taking my Quest 2 to a gym during quiet hours, but I haven't gotten around to that yet.

Think the safest way would be just to put the headset in bag or box when done with it. But safest way still is to keep it out of direct sunlight, don't want it hitting the pancake lenses.

Just tried RE4, apart from the resolution bump and clarity and smooth feeling. Aiming with guns with new controllers, tracking is so much more better than Quest2, because there's no tracking rings anymore and the flatter headset, can get it pretty much as close as you would a real gun.
Everything thus far have been a straight up upgrade and most of the shortcomings of quest2 is gone.

There's a free AR pool game, called Miracle Pool if you search the store. It's pretty damn good for a free game.

FYI Cheaper off Amazon.co.uk, got mine on Friday
Payment Grand Total: ZAR 11,680.31
Thanks for sharing this, for some reason when you add it in the cart the price is £399 instead of £479 and way cheaper shipping and taxes

Just received mine, barely done anything with it, but I'm very happy with my purchase. The boundary setup is a breeze and the same goes for the initial setup and configuration of the new headset itself - quite nice how it immediately starts with installing apps and games from your Quest 2 library.
The passthrough is a tad grainy but it was never meant to be crystal clear 4k video. The mixed reality demo is great and the graphics surpassed my expectations, it blends so well with the real world - you don't really perceive that in Youtube videos etc.
I like the feel of the new controllers. During a quick test in Thrill of the Fight, I can tell the accuracy of the tracking is much improved and I can pretty much hit an opponent precisely in the right spot, compared to previously where I would just land a punch in the general vicinit of where I intended. I almost dropped one as I'd become quite accustomed to (temporarily) holding my Q2 controllers by the ring while adjusting the headset, picking up a phone, etc. - must remember to put the thing down or let it hang from the lanyard around my wrist in future.
Things in VR look very clear through those gorgeous new lenses and although the FOV is just a little bit wider, I can tell the difference. I haven't streamed any PC VR to the Q3 yet as I need to charge the battery up a bit first.

So far so good with the one I ordered for my bro.

Complaints:

The IPD adjuster is of really poor quality.
It feels quite loose, to the touch and while it goes easily from 60 to 68, it feels like you're forcing/breaking it going from 68 to 70.

Thought it was just me, but I saw a review on Amazon with the following:

"The IPD adjustment changes fairly easily between 60 and 66/67 ml, however is very stiff when attempting to move closer to 70 ml. I need mine on 70, and will just try to keep it there because it feels like I might break it when I have to force the wheel from 66/67 ml up to 70. This is clearly an issue with the design and will affect people's comfort when it comes to sharing, especially if they need a wider fit.

Updated - I have noticed that the ipd shifts, and discovered it had moved itself to 65ml, from 70, in a little more than a day, meaning I need to adjust the ipd even though I'm not sharing. That IPD adjustment wheel is a problem!"

Looks like a fairly widespread issue.

Secondly, as has been said everywhere before - the batterylife sucks. 90 minutes on Airlink/PC VR.
Yes, the default strap hurts, no question and the Quest 3 BoboVR strap is not available anywhere. So you're stuck with either extremely expensive, or makeshift solutions.

Overall it's a very nice upgrade from the Quest 2 and HP Reverb G2 that I've got to compare it with.
The FoV is certainly wider, the hand-tracking out of the box just works.
PCVR streaming feels pretty smooth for the most part.

My biggest worry is the lottery that one plays when ordering one.
So many people have issues on a wide spectrum - with many returning units due to battery failure, dead pixels, units overheating, etc, etc.
Annoying, but not so bad if you live in the states or UK where you can return it to the local shop.

For us in SA? It's a cockup.
When I logged into the Meta account I also noticed that Meta states that this brand new Quest 3 512Gb device from Amazon US is "Out of warranty".
I checked my gf's Meta account, and her Quest 2 is still under warranty until mid next year (she also bought it from Amazon US).

Very concerning.

Just received the elite strap and once again, like was the case with Quest 2 it is a huge improvement in comfort for the Quest 3. Next up will probably a silicone facial interface and maybe the active straps.
